DTC P0180: Fuel Tank Temperature (FTT) Sensor: Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect FTT sensor harness connector located behind access cover, under rear seat. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between FTT sensor harness connector Light Green/Red wire and ground. If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, repair open or short in Light Green/Red wire and retest system.
  2. Turn ignition off. Check continuity between FTT harness connector Black wire and body ground. Also check circuit for short to voltage. Repair as necessary and retest system. If ground circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Remove FTT sensor. Measure resistance between Light Green/Red wire terminal and Black wire terminal. At 68°F (20°C), resistance should be 2300-2700 ohms. At 122°F (50°C), resistance should be 790-900 ohms. Resistance should decrease as temperature increases. See Figure. If resistance is not as specified, replace FTT sensor and retest system. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
  4. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article.
