RP 428B - Guidelines For Vision Devices: Exceptions
TMC considers the recommended vision targets in this RP as mandatory for improving the driver's ability to "see" what is needed to make safe driving decisions. Recognizing that compliance with some of these targets will be difficult to achieve, the following exception procedure is recommended:
- RP 428B requirements should be included as a mandatory element of fleet specifications when ordering new vehicles and/or vision devices (noting whether the optional six targets behind the vehicle are required for your fleet's operations)
- A letter from the manufacturer and/or suppliers should be required stating compliance with RP 428B, noting any exceptions.
- The manufacturer's letter must state the timing of actions required to achieve 100 percent compliance if there are exceptions in current product offerings.
The fleet will then have the appropriate information to make a buying decision between alternative products or to delay purchase until the manufacturer has incorporated the changes necessary to comply.
