7. System Administration

One person, the system administrator, should be the point of contact for all issues related to service bay computer maintenance and problem resolution. The system administrator is responsible for and capable of computer setup, software installation, hardware and software upgrades, data file backup, troubleshooting basic system problems, and interacting with vendors regarding larger problems.

When selecting a shop PC tool, also consider:

• Vehicle interface and diagnostic port adapters.
• Software maintenance or subscription purchase.
• Hardware maintenance agreements.
