Using Common Terminology In Functional Areas
Software application functional names describe common functions found in vehicle diagnostic applications. If developing a new diagnostic application, the user should look to the other commonly available diagnostic applications and follow their lead when it comes to common terminology relating to:
- describing the alphanumeric display of parameters and their measured values.
- providing access to diagnostic trouble code (DTC)/fault code information. This section can be further broken down to include active codes, inactive codes, emissions-related codes, and clearing of codes.
- providing access to tests available on the controller or system being monitored. This section can be further broken down into subsections relevant to the system under test.
- providing access to user or manufacturer system calibration information. This section can also be further broken down to better clarify the information provided.
- describing the recording of vehicle databus activity based upon a user request or preconditioned activity, such as beginning a snapshot/recording upon receipt of a diagnostic code.
