Graphical Symbols
Symbols are generally used to replace a word or words with a graphical representation that has the same meaning for all operators, regardless of language.
- Many of the graphical symbols shown in this RP are unique to refuse collection. They are patterned after the symbology established the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in SAE J1362, Graphical Symbols for Operator Controls and Displays on Off-Road Self-Propelled Work Machines. Symbols for functions not specified in this RP should be created in a manner that meets the intent of SAE J1362.
- TMC recommends that all symbols should be reproduced large enough to be easily discernible by the operator. For guidelines on the proper sizing of symbols, see IEC 80416-1, Basic Principles for Graphical Symbols for Use on Equipment - Part 1: Creation of Symbol Originals.
- The Appendix contains a detailed listing of each refuse control graphical symbol, its symbol number, description/application and appropriate ISO/IEC registration number, if applicable.
