RP 1225A - General Guidelines For Security Risk Analysis Of Electronic Driver Log Systems: Introduction: Objectives

The integrity, accuracy and availability of these systems are more important than ever, given their generally accepted use by some and federally mandated use by others. The objectives of this RP are to:

• Provide a baseline for security evaluation  . RP 1225's documented catalog of security threats is a starting point in defining security risks related to electronic driver log systems. Through a more standard approach to identifying security issues, it is expected that TMC and others will continue to evolve the framework for security risk analysis and the catalog of known threats.
• Enable collaboration for advancement of essential security controls  . It is expected that TMC and potentially other efforts will continue to address corresponding security measures and options.
• Provide differentiation for contributing system providers  . System providers and carriers that contribute to and leverage this industry approach should be recognized for providing improving security performance of their electronic driver log systems.
• Enable carriers to better assess their management controls  . Many systems provide effective support system capabilities to manage data integrity, and the implementation approach and resources applied to these system features will determine actual effectiveness. Carriers should consider relevant risks through reviews of their internal practices with these systems.
