RP 170B - Chassis-To-Body Electrical Interface Guidelines For Refuse Trucks: Introduction

The refuse segment of the trucking industry requires the means to electrically interface a refuse truck body to a truck chassis. There currently is no industry standardization for this interface; manufacturers develop their own unique electrical interface solutions.

This lack of standardization affects chassis and body compatibility, fleet standardization, service technician training, and body interchangeability; all these factors adding time and cost to the product. This RP addresses those vehicles with the greatest power demands that require this electrical interface-refuse trucks (e.g., rear packers, front loaders, side loaders and roll-offs). Vehicles used in other industries may require fewer electrical circuits and may not find this RP applicable or appropriate. Connectors and pin assignments in this RP are consistent for all products and functions except for engine functionality, which is to be governed by the engine manufacturer.
