Purpose And Scope

This Recommended Practice (RP) offers guidelines for the maintenance shop manager, training manager, and/or human resources manager for use in planning, designing and implementing a technician development program that encourages professional development through technical certification. The components described in this guideline should be considered during the development of such a program.

The reader is encouraged to review and consider TMC RP 55, Technician Training: A Model for Training Program Planners  , and TMC RP 55, Recommendations for an Employee Performance Evaluation Program  as the ideas and concepts contained therein may be applicable to the development of a comprehensive Fleet Technician Certification program.
