Remove/Install Camshaft Positioner - Ar05.20-D-7204TSC

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning 
caused by swallowing engine oil
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove cylinder head cover.   AR01.20-D-5014TSC
2 Rotate the engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of engine rotation with the aid of a telescope mirror (5) to ignition TDC on cylinder 1. IMPORTANT The TDC marking (05) on the belt pulley must align with the positioning edge on the timing case cover (06).
IMPORTANT Commercially available devices/tools

    SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit Fig 3
3 Remove the chain tensioner.   AR05.10-D-7800TSC 
4 Install holding device (01a). SPECIAL TOOL Holding device Fig 1
5 Install the brackets (02a, 02e). NOTES
Before assembly of the bracket (02a, 02e), the camshafts (4) must be in the TDC position so that the brackets (02a, 02e) can be put in place and installed without further pressure. This prevents damage occurring.
NOTES
The camshafts (4) may exclusively be turned using the socket or with the screw/bolt (N 000000 005561) in combination with the disk (604 990 00 40).
This prevents damage to the camshafts (4).

6 Remove control valves (2) of the camshaft positioners (1). SPECIAL TOOL Socket Fig 2
7 Unhook timing chain (3), remove the camshaft positioners (1) from the camshafts (4) and secure timing chain (3) against falling down.    
INSTALLING Install     
8 Install the camshaft positioners (1) with laid on timing chain (3).    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Specified engine oils (service) - Overview   BB00.40-P-0223-02A
    IMPORTANT When installing the camshaft positioner (1 or the timing chain (3), ensure that the crankshaft does not turn.  
9 Screw in control valves (2) all the way.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Specified engine oils (service) - Overview IMPORTANT The thread and bolt head contact surface for the control valves (2) must be oiled.
IMPORTANT Tightening of the control valves (2) first takes place after installation of the chain tensioner.

10 Install the chain tensioner.   AR05.10-D-7800TSC 
11 Screw control valves (2) in tight.
Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process

    IMPORTANT Tighten both control valves (2) evenly without discontinuity with torque.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Center valve, pulse wheel or camshaft adjuster to camshaft *BA05.20-N-1005-02C 
12 Remove holding device (01a). SPECIAL TOOL Holding device Fig 1
  Check     
13 Check basic position of camshafts (4). If the basic position of the camshafts (4) is incorrect,

adjust basic position of camshafts (4).

INSTALLING Install     
14 Install cylinder head cover.   AR01.20-D-5014TSC
INSPECT Check     
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
15 Carry out engine test run and check engine for proper leaktightness and leaktightness.
