Engine 651 in model 907, 910
| 12.03.2018 | Special tools 651 589 00 40 00 counterholder and 651 589 08 40 00 counterholder added | Step 4 |
Prior to starting work, the timing case recess must be covered with a clean rag to protect it against parts falling down. Parts that nevertheless managed to fall into the timing case recess must be removed.
Engine damage may occur otherwise.
- Connect end element of new timing chain (1.2) and end element of old timing chain (1.1)
with
assembly insert (2), as shown, and secure.
The oil holes (3) on the rollers of the new timing chain (1.2) must point outward.
- Screw in chain tensioner with new seal by a few revolutions.
The chain tensioner prevents skipping of the new timing chain (1.2) or old timing chain (1.1) during turning.
- Remove rag from timing case recess.
- Turn engine at crankshaft slowly in direction of engine rotation. While doing so, pull in the new timing chain (1.2) steadily while letting out the old timing chain (1.1) at the same time.
The basic position of the engine must be set up when the new timing chain (1.2) or the old timing chain (1.1) skips on the camshaft sprockets or on the crankshaft gear.
Engine damage could occur otherwise.
Engine 651 in model 907 with code H08 (Roof-mounted air conditioning system, reinforced) To turn engine at crankshaft, use
counterholder 651 589 00 40 00.
Engine 651 in model 907 except code H08 (Roof-mounted air conditioning system, reinforced) To turn engine at crankshaft, use
counterholder 651 589 08 40 00.
Aid of helper required.
- Cover over timing case slot with a clean rag.
- SI Unlock and remove assembly insert (2).
The assembly insert (2) is only an aid for assembly and is not suitable for engine operation. The
assembly insert (2) must therefore be removed. Engine damage could occur otherwise.
- Place old timing chain (1.1) to one side.
