Prepare Windshield For Installation - Ar67.10-D-1700-04TS

  1. Remove adhesive residue from windshield.

    When reusing windshield.

    NOTES A maximum of 1 mm of adhesive residue may be left. Pull off loose adhesive material (remaining pieces which are not completely cut off).

    Prevents leakage.

  2. Clean windshield with commercially available glass cleaner.

    NOTES The bonding area on the windshield must be absolutely dry and free of dust and grease. Prevents paint adhesion problems when installing window.

  3. Check windshield for damage.

    If windshield is damaged

    Replace windshield.

  4. Position windshield on rubber window spacers on body flange, align, and center.

    IMPORTANT A helper is required.

    IMPORTANT Align windshield such that the clearance from the body flange on the left and right is equal.

  5. Glue suitable adhesive strips onto roof edge and windshield.

    IMPORTANT Marks installation position. Facilitates gluing in later.

    IMPORTANT A helper is required.

  6. Cut through adhesive strips on the edge of the windshield.
  7. Remove windshield.

    IMPORTANT A helper is required.

  8. Clean bonding area on windshield with cleaner and cleaning cloth contained in repair kit and wipe dry with dry cloth.

    When replacing windshield.

  9. Apply primer with slight pressure in one stroke and with sufficient coat thickness to the bonding area on the windshield.

    When replacing windshield.

    NOTES Do not brush on primer and do not apply an excessive coat thickness; observe flash-off time (at least 10 min).

    Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
