General
The fuel tank diagnostic module (1) checks the fuel tank at regular intervals for leaks.
Function
The fuel tank diagnostic module (1) comprises a plastic housing with two hose connections in which the following components are located:
- Fuel tank diagnostic module pump
- Fuel tank diagnostic module heating element
- Fuel tank diagnostic module solenoid valve
- Reference leak point
The leak tightness of the fuel tank is checked by the combustion engine control unit by comparing the power consumptions during the generation of an overpressure in the fuel tank without and with the reference leak.
The combustion engine control unit detects the size of the leak by the time that the fuel tank diagnostic module pump has to work until a reference current is achieved.
Leaks from a size of Ø 0.5 mm are detected.
