RP 1214A - Guidelines For Event Data Collection, Storage And Retrieval: Terminology

Terms in this RP are defined in TMC RP 1203A- ELECTRONIC TERM STANDARDIZATION and SAE J2403. Avoiding company specific colloquialisms or terminology prevents miscommunication.

Capture  - The process of saving recorded data.

Event  - Anything of interest that may occur during the operation of the vehicle.

Incident  - Any event in which the safety of the vehicle or any person is threatened.

Trigger  - Any data parameter that exceeds either a predefined threshold or an external input. A trigger initiates the capture of data.
