Remove/Install Rear Axle Spring - Ar32.20-D-0232TS

  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves. AS00.00-Z-0001-01A
  Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process   AH00.00-P-0020-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Raise vehicle.   AR00.60-D-1000-04TS
  Special instructions for lifting and supporting vehicle   AH00.60-N-0100-01TS
2 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-D-0100-01TS
    IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools  Tensioning straps  
3 Prop up rear axle.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
4 Remove articulated rod (9) from headlamp range adjustment level sensor lever. Model 907, with code LG7 (LED High Performance headlamp)
IMPORTANT To do so, remove ball head.		  
5 Secure rear axle. IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools 
Tensioning straps
IMPORTANT To do so, fix rear axle in place with tensioning strap on major assembly support.		  
6 Remove spring U-bolts (1). IMPORTANT For this purpose unscrew nuts.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, spring U-bolt for rear axle spring to rear axle *BA32.20-N-1005-03A 
7 Remove plate (2).    
8 Remove shock absorbers at rear axle.   AR32.25-D-0110TS 
9 Remove rear axle spring (3) from front spring bracket. IMPORTANT To do this, unscrew nut (5) and remove screw.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear axle spring to spring bracket at front *BA32.20-N-1002-03A 
10 Remove rear axle spring (3) with spring shackle (4) from rear spring bracket. IMPORTANT To do so, unscrew nut and remove screw.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, spring shackle to spring bracket at rear *BA32.20-N-1004-03A 
11 Remove propeller shaft from rear axle. Model 907 AR41.10-D-0050TS
    NOTES Tie up propeller shaft using suitable wire or cable to body. Otherwise drive shaft may become damaged.  
12 Remove stabilizer bar from rear axle. If installed.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 907
except code CB2 (Comfort air suspension)
except code IT5 (5.0 tons)
Model 907 with code IT5 (5.0 tons)
except code CB2 (Comfort air suspension) Bolt, stabilizer bar to rear axle		 *BA32.35-N-1001-03TS 
13 Remove rear axle spring (3).    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
    NOTES Lower the rear axle carefully and do not pull or kink the brake hoses.
Otherwise the brake hoses will be damaged.
IMPORTANT To do so, lower rear axle.
IMPORTANT A helper is required.		  
14 Remove spring shackle (4) from rear axle spring (3). IMPORTANT To do this, unscrew nut (5) and remove screw.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear axle spring to spring shackle at rear *BA32.20-N-1003-03A 
INSPECT Check     
15 Check elastomer bearings in rear axle spring (3) and spring shackle (4) for damage. If corresponding findings are present,
↓
replace elastomers bearing in rear axle spring (3) and spring shackle (4).		  
    Remove/install elastomer bearing of rear axle spring AR32.20-D-0240TS 
INSTALLING Install     
16 Attach spring shackle (4) to rear bearing eye of rear axle spring (3). Adjust installed dimension of rear axle spring AR32.20-D-0031-01TSR 
    IMPORTANT To do so, install screw and screw on nut (5).
IMPORTANT To do so, adjust installed dimension of rear axle spring (3).		  
    Model 907 except code CB2 (Air suspension comfort suspension) *BE32.20-N-1001-02TS 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear axle spring to spring shackle at rear *BA32.20-N-1003-03A 
17 Install rear axle spring (3) at front spring bracket. NOTES Slightly tighten screw by hand.
Otherwise the elastomer bearings will be placed under stress and will wear prematurely.
IMPORTANT To do so, install screw and screw on nut (5).
IMPORTANT For this, ensure correct installation position of rear axle spring (3). The mark (arrow) must point forward.		  
18 Mount rear axle spring (3) with spring shackle (4) to rear spring bracket. NOTES Slightly tighten screw by hand.
Otherwise the elastomer bearings will be placed under stress and will wear prematurely.
IMPORTANT To do so, install screw with nut.		  
19 Install plate (2).    
20 Raise rear axle.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
21 Install spring U-bolts (1). IMPORTANT To do so, screw on nuts.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, spring U-bolt for rear axle spring to rear axle *BA32.20-N-1005-03A 
22 Remove major assembly support from rear axle.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
    IMPORTANT To do so, remove tensioning strap from rear axle and major assembly support.  
23 Attach shock absorber to rear axle.   AR32.25-D-0110TS 
24 Attach propeller shaft to rear axle. Model 907 AR41.10-D-0050TS
25 Attach stabilizer bar to rear axle. If installed.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 907 except code IT5 (5.0 tons) model 907 with code IT5 (5.0 tons) Bolt, stabilizer bar to rear axle *BA32.35-N-1001-03TS 
26 Attach articulated rod (9) at headlamp range adjustment level sensor lever. Model 907 (except 910.0) with code LG7 (LED High Performance headlamp)
IMPORTANT To do so, attach ball head.		  
27 Remove locking clip on vehicle on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-D-0100-01TS
28 Lower vehicle.    
29 Drive vehicle on 4-post vehicle lift or work pit.    
30 Rock vehicle to settle suspension several times.    
31 Tighten nut (5) of rear axle spring (3) on front spring bracket and nut of spring shackle (4) to rear spring bracket. NOTES The nuts (5) on the front spring bracket and the nuts of the spring shackle (4) on the rear spring bracket may only be tightened with the rear axle spring (3) in its compressed state. Otherwise the elastomer bearings will be placed under stress and will wear prematurely.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, rear axle spring to spring bracket at front *BA32.20-N-1002-03A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, spring shackle to spring bracket at rear *BA32.20-N-1004-03A
