RP 1513 - In-Cab Control Placement Guidelines For Refuse Vehicles: Introduction

A thorough understanding of the location and function of vehicle controls is essential for the safe and efficient operation of refuse collection vehicles. Controls that are labeled with standardized icons, and located in standardized layouts encourage rapid operator proficiency regardless of equipment manufacturer or model. This RP offers guidelines for standardization of control layout and labeling on refuse vehicles. It recommends use of common descriptions and intuitive graphical symbols, which can be especially helpful to operators for whom English is a second language.
