INSPECT Check
DANGER Risk of explosion  from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury  through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
1 Check poly-V belt tension Model 222 with engine 276.8/9
Model 222 with engine 276.8
If the voltage of the poly-V belt is outside the tolerance range

Replace clamping device
AR13.20-P-0001LFA
2 Check poly-V belt for wear
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   Model 222 (except 222.163) with engine 276.8/9 AP13.22-P-1352EW
3 Check electrical lines to on-board electrical system battery (G1), alternator (G2) and control unit for on-board electrical system battery for firm seating and a perfect condition
4 Open engine compartment pre-fuse box (F32/3) and check alternator electrical fuse for damage; replace if necessary
5 Remove lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105LF
6 Check ground strap between transmission and body for tight seating and a proper condition
7 Connect up load tester (079) with current clamp (065) according to connecting diagram
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
8 Start Engine IMPORTANT Open driver door so that the alternator management changes into workshop mode.
9 Check charging current at fast rpms, whereby the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is loaded with the load tester (079) IMPORTANT Alter load resistance long enough until the maximum charging current is achieved; the charging voltage must not drop below 12.7 V when this is done.
