Location
The front near and long-range radar sensor is located in the center, in front of the radiator.
Tasks
The near and long-range radar sensor has the following tasks:
- Actuation, power supply and evaluation of target data from the integral long range radar
- Transmission of object data for vehicle longitudinal control to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit (N62/4)
- Transmission of object data for traffic area monitoring to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit
- Transmission of object data to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit for a plausibility check of the object data by the stereo multifunction camera (A40/13)
- Transmission of object data for collision-avoiding intervention by the brake system to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit
The control electronics integrated in the near and long-range radar sensor actuates the long range radar and evaluate the target data. The front short and long range radar sensor transmits the object data via the suspension FlexRay (Flex E) to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit.
This results in the following tasks for the near and the long-range radar sensor:
- Reading in input factors
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Transmission of initial parameters
Reading in input factors
The front near and long-range radar sensor receives amongst other things the following input signals via the chassis FlexRay:
- Radar request
- Diagnosis request
Evaluation of input factors
Input factors are evaluated by the integrated control electronics.
Actuation of components
The short and long range radar sensor actuates the radome heater (R61) via a direct line.
Transmission of initial parameters
The near and long-range radar sensor transmits amongst other things the following initial parameters via the chassis FlexRay:
- Target data from the radar
- Diagnostic data
Structure
The front near and long range radar sensor contains control electronics for actuating and evaluating the long range radar.
The front short and long range radar sensor must be readjusted after replacement (e. g. after an accident repair) via the integrated "Service Adjustment mode".
