Distance warning system activated
Function requirements for proximity warning system (AWS), general
- Circuit 61 ON (engine running)
- "ADTR" (Advanced DISTRONIC) coded in the central gateway control unit (N93)
- Contamination/function test of wheels successfully completed
- Parking brake not applied
- Gear range "D" engaged
Proximity warning system, general
The distance warning system is an additional function of DISTRONIC. It warns the driver in the speed range of 30 to 250 km/h of moving or stationary obstacles in his lane
Proximity warning system, function sequence
Independent of the distance control of the DISTRONIC PLUS the driver can activate or deactivate the distance warning separately via the left or right multifunction steering wheel button group (S110, S111) in the "Assistance" menu in the instrument cluster (A1). Thus the distance warning system is dependent here on the function (function requirements) of the radar sensor system.
When the distance warning system is activated, the "distance warning system indicator" at the bottom left next to the Electronic Speedometer (A1p8) is lit.
The distance warning is triggered whenever a deceleration >6 m/s 2 is necessary in order to avoid a collision. Distance warnings are indicated by the DTR warning lamp and an intermittent signal.
The multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster displays the vehicle being driven, the adjusted specified distance and vehicle driving in front with the current distance shown.
As an additional function, the driver is alerted if he/she remains within a distance <0.9s from the preceding vehicle for longer than 3s. The DTR warning lamp remains lit until the correct distance has been reestablished.
This is intended to give the driver the opportunity of avoiding a fine (due to insufficient minimum distance).
The distance warning system does not perform any control functions by itself, such as braking the vehicle.
