TV-mode, function - GF82.85-P-2011LE

MODEL 216, 221 with CODE (863) Digital/analog TV tuner as of model year 2009 /YoM 08

Function requirements, general

TV mode, general

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) (A90/1) enables both analog and digital television channels to be received in the vehicle and shown on the COMAND display (A40/8) (without code (867) SPLITVIEW) or on the SPLITVIEW display (A40/10) (with code (867) SPLITVIEW).

Analog and digital TV signals are received over the same antenna structures. The function is therefore jointly described.

TV functions can be selected, activated and set using the front central operating unit (A40/9) or with a remote control (as of 1.6.09 with code (816) Entertainment remote control or code (867) SPLITVIEW).

The TV operation function consists of the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for TV signal reception

The antenna signals of TV antennas 1 to 4 in the rear window for television reception are forwarded over the following path to the TV combination tuner (analog/digital):

The TV signal reception function is split up into the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for analog TV reception

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) receives and processes analog terrestrial television programs broadcast in all standards. The audio quality is limited to "MONO".

The TV system operates with a total of 3 reception modules for video and audio signals. The tuners used therefore cover a reception range of f = 30 to 866 MHz.

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) supports the reception of the TV standards "PAL/SECAM" and "NTSC", and it is also equipped with four antenna inputs in which the TV signals are fed in from the rear window antenna amplifier module.

The antennas are not assigned to a particular tuner but can be used in the same way by each tuner.

Function sequence for digital TV reception

Along with the analog television stations, terrestrially broadcast, digital television stations can also be received over the given antenna structure. Only the Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial standard is supported. In contrast to analog TV, the audio can be received in stereo here. The switchover from analog to digital TV reception is done by the TV combination tuner (analog/digital) depending on the reception status at any given time. The user cannot influence this. However, switchover between alternative channels as well as between analog and digital reception can be prevented with the "Fix channel" control function. If stations with matching stations names are received (e.g. ARD analog and digital), only one entry is made in the list of stations.

IMPORTANT Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial, with its larger frequency coverage, enables the reception of more TV stations in better quality.

The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is also equipped with the following functionalities:

IMPORTANT Videotext:

Some stations, primarily in central Europe, offer videotext in addition to their television program. The TV combination tuner (analog/digital) is therefore equipped with its own videotext decoder.

Function sequence for video signal

After the TV signals have been processed in the TV combination tuner (analog/digital), the video signals are displayed as follows:

Function sequence for audio signal

After the TV signals have been processed in the TV combination tuner (analog/digital), the audio signals are sent over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1) or the digital sound processor (A2/69) (model 221 as of 1.9.10 with code (811) Advanced Sound System) and emitted at the speaker system.

The speaker system in model 216 comprises the following components:

Model 221 except model 221 (as of 1.9.10) with code (811)

Advanced Sound System:

Model 221 (as of 1.9.10) with code (811) Advanced Sound System:

IMPORTANT The woofers and bass box speaker on model 221 (as of 1.9.10) with code (811) Advanced Sound System are actuated by the sound amplifier (A2/13), which is controlled by the digital sound processor.
