Backup camera
The vehicle is equipped with an assist system, which should assist the driver when maneuvering while backing up and parking. The "Backup camera" system consists of a backup camera (B84/3), which seizes the immediate vicinity surrounding the rear of the vehicle, and a central computer unit, the backup camera control unit (N66/2).
The backup camera control unit forwards the images from the backup camera directly via a screened line to the COMAND controller unit and from there via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the COMAND display.
DVD video
A DVD changer is integrated as standard in the COMAND controller unit. The DVD changer can be used to have video DVDs read out, decoded and shown on the COMAND display.
The "DVD menu" and the "Title menu" are stored on the DVD. The appearance and functional scope of the menus are dependent on the respective medium. In the event that one of the two menus is missing on the DVD, the COMAND display provides the corresponding menu item with a gray background, signaling that it cannot be selected by the user.
DVD video playback is only possible when the vehicle is stationary and the parking brake is engaged. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the COMAND display.
TV
A standard TV single tuner is integrated in the COMAND controller unit.
TV signals are received over the antenna structures of the rear window and picked up by the rear window antenna amplifier module at the rear window. The TV signals are transmitted to the TV antenna selector via high frequency (HF) lines. This antenna selector is capable of switching incoming TV signals to the TV tuner.
With this system, the user can receive the individual television channels on the Japanese frequency band (NTSC) and watch them on the COMAND display. Playback is then possible in stereo or mono. The audio signals are transmitted to the audio tuner control unit where they are amplified and output over the speaker system installed in the vehicle.
A TV picture is only available when the vehicle is stationary and the parking brake is engaged. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the COMAND display.
