Video mode, general 

The DVD drive of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) supports the playback of video DVDs and Video CDs. The video picture is shown here on the COMAND display (A40/8) (without code (867) SPLITVIEW) or on the SPLITVIEW display (A40/10) (with code (867) SPLITVIEW), after the "VIDEO" menu and the "DVD" submenu have been activated.

The following components are available for control of the audio system:

• Front central operating unit (A40/9)
• Hands-free system microphone group (A67b1) (up to 31.5.09 with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS]) or as of 1.6.09 except code (526) COMAND with single DVD drive (without navigation))
• Center console button group (S148)
• Remote control (with code (816) Entertainment remote control or code (867) SPLITVIEW or for model 221 with code (864) Rear entertainment system)

Function sequence for video mode 

The DVD drive can be used to read out and decode DVD videos. The "DVD menu" and the "Title menu" are stored on the DVD. The audio signals are forwarded over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1) or the digital sound processor (A2/69) (model 221 as of 1.9.10 with code (811) Advanced Sound System), where they are amplified and emitted through the speaker system.

The speaker system in model 216 comprises the following components:

The woofers and bass box speaker on model 221 (as of 1.9.10) with code (811) Advanced Sound System are actuated by the sound amplifier (A2/13), which is controlled by the digital sound processor.

For safety reasons the DVD/CD video function is only available when the vehicle is stationary (up to 3 km/h). While driving only the acoustic playback is active and a warning message is shown on the COMAND display. For vehicles with code (867) SPLITVIEW the visual DVD/CD video function is still available on the front passenger's SPLITVIEW display.
