Replace Tele Aid Control Module
This Service Campaign has been initiated because Daimler AG (DAG) has determined that the Tele Aid may not function properly as a result of a hardware fault in the Tele Aid control module. If this condition exists an instrument cluster message of "No Service" and "Tele Aid inoperable" will be seen by the customer. To correct this condition dealers will replace the Tele Aid control module at the next workshop visit.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
- Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
- Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as described.
Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 22,508 vehicles are affected.
PROCEDURE
- Use DAS 11/08 with all associated patches or higher.
- Connect Star Diagnosis
- Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS.
- Connect battery charger.
A. TRANSFER TELE AID CONTROL MODULE SETTINGS
- Print-out control module version by navigating through the following screen menus: Main Groups/Control Units/Information and communication/Audio, video, navigation and telematics/Tele Aid - Emergency call, Stolen vehicle tracking, MB info, Roadside Assistance, Remote door unlocking, Remote door locking/Control unit version Control unit TELE AID.
- Transfer the settings of the Tele Aid control module to Star Diagnosis by navigating through the following screen menus: Initial Startup (follow on-screen instructions).
- Proceed to Subject B: Replace Tele Aid Control Module.
B. REPLACE TELE AID CONTROL MODULE
- Models 211/219/216/221:
- Model 171: proceed to Subject C.
- Model 230: proceed to Subject D.
- Refer to WIS for models:
- 164/164.8: AR82.95-P-0005GZ
- 204: AR82.95-P-0005CW
- 251: AR82.95-P-0005RTNOTE: (regarding model 251 WIS instructions): Remove rear bolts securing front seat to allow easier access to Tele Aid control module.NOTE: (regarding the 4 WIS instructions listed above): After installing Tele Aid control module proceed to Subject E: Initialize and Register Tele Aid Control Module.
- Model 204.9:
- Remove cargo compartment components, refer to WIS: AR68.80-P-5800CY.
- Find location of Tele Aid control module (Fig 3)
- Replace Tele Aid control module.
- Proceed to Subject E: Initialize and Register Tele Aid Control Module.
- Model 209 coupe:
- Find location of Tele Aid control module (N123/4, Fig 4).
- Replace Tele Aid control module.
- Proceed to Subject E: Initialize and Register Tele Aid Control Module.

- Open retractable hard top.
- Loosen center console, refer to WIS: AR68.20-P-2320R.
- Remove screws, remove cover (arrow, Fig 6).
- Remove edge guard (A, Fig 6) then remove door threshold.
- Open retractable hard top cover (A, Fig 7): hold retractable hardtop switch in closed position until hard top cover (A) is open.
- Loosen screw (arrow, Fig 7) and remove screw under hard top cover (not shown) then remove hard top hinge cover (B).
- Remove 4 bolts (arrows, Fig 8) then remove rear wall panel (A).
- Loosen rear storage box:
- Repeat steps 3, 4, 6, and 8 on opposite side.
- Remove 4 Tele Aid control module bracket bolts (arrows, Fig 11).
- Remove Tele Aid control module:
- Move storage boxes away from Tele Aid control module (A, Fig 11) to gain access to wire harness and cables.
- Remove bolts (B, Fig 11) securing Tele Aid control module to mounting bracket (C).
- Disconnect wire harness and cables from Tele Aid control module (A).
- Slide Tele Aid control module (A) out of mounting bracket (C, Fig 11).
- Proceed to Subject E: Initialize and Register Tele Aid Control Module.
E. INITIALIZE AND REGISTER TELE AID CONTROL MODULE
- Continue with initial startup (follow on-screen instructions).
- When prompted to print fax form do not use fax form in DAS. Instead use fax form in Fig 13 .
- Print-out control module version by navigating through the following screen menus: Main Groups/Control Units/Information and communication/Audio, video, navigation and telematics/Tele Aid - Emergency call, Stolen vehicle tracking, MB info, Roadside Assistance, Remote door unlocking, Remote door locking/Control unit version Control unit TELE AID.
- Complete registration form, register new control module with ATX by faxing fax form along with new control module version information and old control module version information.
- Reassemble in reverse order.
- After receiving the fax from ATX
confirming that the unit swap was successful, check the subscriber status. If the customer is a non-subscriber do not make an i-call; the service campaign is complete. If the customer is indicated to be a subscriber, please perform an i-call to verify that the Tele Aid system is working properly (either of the below responses indicates that the system is operating correctly):
- "Welcome to Tele Aid, a service of Mercedes-Benz.".
- "You've reached the Mercedes-Benz Tele Aid assist line. Would you like to hear more about Tele Aid?"NOTE: Do not to perform the i-call prior to receiving confirmation from ATX.
- After receiving either of the above messages, please end the call.

Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
