The starter control is integrated in the CDI control unit.

  1. Starting with a manual transmission
    1. Starting prerequisites

Actuation of the starter only takes place when there is "start enable" (drive authorization) sent by the EIS [EZS] control unit.

    2. START

Actuation of the ignition in the start position causes the ME control unit to receive the "circuit 50 signal" from the EIS control unit via the CAN databus. The CDI control unit actuates the starter relay by means of a ground signal. The power contact for the starter relay closes and the solenoid switch on the starter is supplied by "circuit 50" with a voltage from "circuit 15 unfused".

    3. Ending start

Cutting out "circuit 50" (ignition/starter switch) causes the CDI control unit to interrupt negative activation to the starter relay and thus ends the starting procedure.

  2. Starting with an automatic transmission
    1. Starting prerequisites

Actuation of the starter is only performed for "start enable" (drive authorization) of the EIS control unit and on detecting the engaged drive position "P" or "N" via electronic selector lever module control unit.

    2. START

Actuation of the ignition in the start position causes the ME control unit to receive the "circuit 50 signal" from the EIS control unit via the CAN databus. Start control is carried out automatically by the CDI control unit (touch start). The CDI control unit actuates the starter relay by means of a ground signal. The power contact on the starter relay closes and the starter solenoid switch is supplied at "tml. 50" with voltage from "tml. 15 unfused".

    3. Ending start

When the engine speed reaches 400 to 700 rpm and there is a start time of about 5 to 40 seconds (dependent on the engine temperature, motor speed and selector lever position "P" or "N"), the CDI control unit interrupts negative activation to the starter relay and ends the starting procedure.

IMPORTANT Once the start operation is initiated, switching off "Terminal 50" (ignition/starter switch) no further influence on the starting procedure.
