Task
To limit the maximum speed of the engine.
Function
The IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7) detects the engine speed via the IFI/DFI [ERE/EVE] crankshaft position sensor (L5/6) and limits it by means of the fuel quantity actuator (Y23/1) and the control rod to approximately 5400 rpm, or 5300 rpm for engine 606.961/962 (under no load).
Drive train protection for MT vehicles
The injected quantity is reduced in the operating states stated below as a protection for the engine and the drive train:
- After each engine start as long as the clutch pedal is not fully depressed
- When the clutch pedal is depressed
- When the clutch pedal is depressed and vehicle speed is <10 km/h
Engine speed is limited by the IFI [ERE] control module (N3/7) to 3500 rpm.
