Crankshaft position sensor function - GF07.04-P-4116-01HB

The crankshaft position and engine speed are detected with no contact required. With the engine running, the leading and trailing edges of the flywheel segments (a) generates an alternating voltage (through induction) in the crankshaft position sensor (L5/6).

Higher engine speed = higher voltage

The number of segments (a) equals the number of cylinders in the engine.
