Resetting and Reactivating ECM Memory



The following engine control module functions:

- Recognition of vehicle equipment and version,
- Self-recognition of mechanical end-stop of closed throttle valve (via CAN),
- Self-adaptation of mixture preparation.

must be reset whenever the engine control module is replaced or after trial installation of a engine control module from another vehicle.

Reset and Reactivation Procedure:

- Connect impulse counter scan tool (black wire to socket 1, red wire to socket 16 and yellow wire to socket 8),
- Turn ignition ON,
- Read and erase diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's),
- After the number "1" appears, press start button for 6 to 8 seconds,
- Turn ignition OFF for a minimum of 2 seconds,
- Turn ignition ON, wait a minimum of 10 seconds and then start engine.

NOTE: Control modules manufactured by Bosch up to 8/93, the start button must be pressed for 5 to 6 seconds to clear the DTC memory and 8 to 9 seconds to reset and reactivate the ECM memory.
