TDC Transmitter Checking

  1. Remove radiator. Remove A/C compressor with hoses and set aside. Remove hex head bolt and remove TDC transmitter.
  2. Install Measuring Pin (115 589 17 21 00) in spark plug hole of No. 1 cylinder. Rotate crankshaft until adjusting pin is at its highest point (piston is at TDC).
  3. Remove adjusting pin. Bolt dial indicator to TDC adapter. Set a pre-load of .20" (5.0 mm) on indicator pointer. Rotate crankshaft and accurately find TDC using dial indicator. Adjust indicator dial to "0" at TDC.
  4. Rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation until dial indicator reads .120" (2.99 mm) on 4.2L engine or .140" (3.58 mm) on 5.6L engine. Insert Locator (102 589 03 21 00) in adjusting slide. Pin of vibration damper should engage in groove of locator.
  5. With right cylinder head removed from engine, place dial indicator vertically on No. 1 piston. Find TDC and set indicator dial to "0". Rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation until dial indicator reads .120" (2.99 mm) on 4.2L engine or .140" (3.58 mm) on 5.6L engine.
  6. Loosen adjusting slide and move until pin engages in locator. Install adjusting slide and remove locator. Insert TDC transmitter into mount. Remove dial indicator. Rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation. Remove measuring pin from spark plug hole.
