Brake Switch Circuit
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Depress brake pedal and observe brakelight operation. If brakelights do not illuminate, go to next step. If brakelights illuminate, go to step 4 .
- Release brake pedal and observe brakelight operation. If brakelights do not illuminate, go to step 8 . If brakelights illuminate, go to next step.
- Test brake switch. If brake switch is okay, repair short to voltage in brakelight system. If brake switch is defective, replace brake switch.
- Inspect STOP fuse (20-amp) in instrument panel fuse box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in brakelight system wiring.
- Ensure STOP fuse is installed and brake switch harness connector is connected. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using a voltmeter, backprobe terminal "C" (Green/Black wire) at brake switch harness connector. SeeFigure . If battery voltage exists, release brake pedal and go to step 7 . If battery voltage does not exist, release brake pedal and go to next step.
- Using a voltmeter, backprobe terminal "A" (Green/Red wire) at brake switch harness connector. If battery voltage exists, replace brake switch. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in wiring between instrument panel fuse box and brake switch or replace noise suppressor as necessary.
- Access cruise control module located behind right kick panel. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using a voltmeter, backprobe terminal "M" (White/Green wire) at cruise control module harness connector. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, replace cruise control module. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in White/Green wire between cruise control module and noise suppressor, open in Green/Black wire between noise suppressor and brake switch, and/or replace noise suppressor as necessary.
- Access cruise control module located behind right kick panel. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using a voltmeter, backprobe terminal "M" (White/Green wire) at cruise control module harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in White/Green wire between cruise control module and noise suppressor, open in Green/Black wire between noise suppressor and brake switch and/or replace noise suppressor as necessary.
- Disconnect brake switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn cruise control main switch on. Measure voltage at terminal "B" (White/Red wire) at brake switch harness connector. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step 11 .
- Ensure ignition switch is in RUN position and cruise control main switch is on. Using a voltmeter, backprobe terminal "H" (White/Red wire) at cruise control module harness connector. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist, replace cruise control module. If battery voltage exists, repair open in White/Red wire between cruise control module and brake switch.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect brake switch harness connector. Using a voltmeter, backprobe terminal "D" (Violet/Yellow wire) at brake switch harness connector. When brake pedal is released, battery voltage should exist. When brake pedal is depressed, voltage should not exist. If voltage is not as specified, replace brake switch. If battery voltage is as specified, release brake and go to next step.
- Using a voltmeter, backprobe terminal "O" (Violet/Yellow wire) at cruise control module harness connector. When brake pedal is released, battery voltage should exist. When brake pedal is depressed, voltage should not exist. If voltage is not as specified, replace open in wiring between cruise control module and brake switch. If battery voltage is as specified, replace cruise control module.
