Axle Shaft: Installation
CAUTION:
Sharp edges of axle shaft snap ring can slice or puncture oil seal. Be careful when installing axle shaft into transaxle.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. For right axle shaft, install NEW clip on to intermediate shaft. Measure outer diameter of clip after installing. See Fig 1 . Replace clip if it exceeds specification. Secure axle shaft in a vice.
- With the ends of clip facing upward, drive intermediate shaft into axle shaft using a soft-face hammer. See Fig 2 . Tighten bolts and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Apply ATF to oil seal lip. Push axle shaft and intermediate shaft assembly in to transaxle. For left axle shaft, insert drive shaft into wheel hub. Apply ATF to oil seal lip. Push axle shaft in to transaxle. After installation, pull transaxle side CV joint to confirm axle shaft is securely held by clip.
