Inspection of Retard Function

Fig. 25 Location of ignition service connector:





1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
2. Connect a tachometer and a timing light to the engine.
3. Run engine at idle and check that the ignition timing is within specification.

IGNITION TIMING: 11°- 13° BTDC

4. Disconnect the service connector Fig. 25.
5. Tap the intake manifold assembly with a wrench and check that the ignition timing retards.
6. Stop tapping the intake manifold and confirm that the ignition timing returns to specification.
