Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair

Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor:






REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Partially drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

3. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring from Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.
4. Remove ECT sensor from water bypass tube.
5. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten ECT sensor to 8-13 Nm (6-8 lb ft). Refill cooling system.
