Vehicle Speed Sensor Function (Analog Instrument Panel Only)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1992 Ford Probe. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. For instrument cluster removal, see VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect speedometer cable from instrument cluster.
  2. Connect ohmmeter between Green/Red wire and Black wire. Slowly rotate speedometer cable connections at instrument cluster. If ohmmeter indicates 4 continuity interruptions per speedometer cable rotation, proceed to PINPOINT TEST A5. If ohmmeter reading is not as specified, replace vehicle speed sensor (speedometer subassembly).
