Windshield Deicer does not Operate: Procedure

  1. CHECK AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM 
    1. Check the air conditioning system.

      OK

      The air conditioning system operates normally.

    NG → see step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (DEICER RELAY) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Active Test.
    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the Techstream.
      AIR CONDITIONER

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Deicer Relay (Front) Windshield deicer OFF or ON -

      OK

      The windshield deicer operates normally.

    NG → see step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY 
    1. Replace the multi-display. Refer to REMOVAL for models with Navigation System.efer to REMOVAL for models without Navigation System).
    2. Press the windshield deicer switch.
    3. Check that the windshield deicer operates.

      OK

      The windshield deicer operates normally.

    NG → see step   10 

    OK → ND (MULTI-DISPLAY WAS DEFECTIVE) 

  4. INSPECT DEICER RELAY 
    1. Remove the DEICER relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 5 When battery voltage is applied to terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
      3 - 5 When battery voltage is not applied between terminals 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPLACE DEICER RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEICER RELAY - BATTERY) 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      No. 2 engine room relay block DEICER relay terminal 1 - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V
      No. 2 engine room relay block DEICER relay terminal 5 - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEICER RELAY - A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY) 
    1. Disconnect the K52 A/C amplifier assembly connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K52-4 (FDEF) - No. 2 engine room relay block DEICER relay terminal 2 Always Below 1 Ω
      K52-4 (FDEF) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the DEICER relay to the No. 2 engine room relay block.

    2. Reconnect the K52 A/C amplifier assembly connector.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      K52-4 (FDEF) - K52-20 (GND) Power switch on (IG), windshield deicer switch on 11 to 14 V
      K52-4 (FDEF) - K52-20 (GND) Power switch on (IG), windshield deicer switch off Below 1 V

    NG → see step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DEICER RELAY - WINDSHIELD DEICER) 
    1. Remove the DEICER relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block.

    2. Disconnect the windshield deicer connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A64-2 (B) - No. 2 engine room relay block DEICER relay terminal 3 Always Below 1 Ω
      A64-1 (B2) - No. 2 engine room relay block DEICER relay terminal 3 Always Below 1 Ω
      A64-2 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A64-1 (B2) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      A64-3 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT WINDSHIELD GLASS (WINDSHIELD DEICER WIRE) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A64-2 (B) - A64-3 (E) Always Below 1 Ω
      A64-1 (B2) - A64-3 (E) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE WINDSHIELD DEICER WIRE, OR REPLACE WINDSHIELD GLASS 

    OK → see step   10 

  10. REPLACE A/C AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  11. GO TO AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
