Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Turn the tester on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Body / Active Test/ Daytime Running Light.
    5. Check the headlight (Low-beam) while operating the daytime running light relay using the tester.

      Body (Main Body ECU) 

      BODY (MAIN BODY ECU)

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Normal Condition
      Daytime Running Light DRL Relay ON/OFF -

      OK: The headlight (low-beam) comes on when operating it through the Techstream. 

    NG: Go to step 2 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  

  2. INSPECT FUSE (DRL FUSE) 
    1. Remove the DRL fuse from the No. 2 engine room relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance according value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      DRL fuse Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Reinstall the DRL fuse.

    NG: REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. INSPECT DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY 
    1. Remove the DRL relay from the No. 4 engine room relay block.

    3. Measure the resistance according value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - 5 Voltage is not applied between terminals 1 and 2 10 kΩ or higher
      3 - 5 Apply the battery voltage between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
    4. Reinstall the DRL relay.

    NG: REPLACE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY) 
    1. Remove the DRL relay from the No. 4 engine room relay block.

    3. Measure the voltage according value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      DRL relay terminal 1 - Body round Light control switch is in HEAD position 11 to 14 V
      DRL relay terminal 1 - Body round Light control switch is in OFF or TAIL position Below 1 V
    4. Reinstall the DRL relay.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY - MAIN BODY ECU) 
    1. Remove the DRL relay from the No. 4 engine room relay block.
    2. Disconnect the 1B main body ECU connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      DRL relay terminal 2 - 1B-3 (H-ON) Always Below 1 Ω
      DRL relay terminal 2 or 1B-3 (H-ON) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    5. Reinstall the DRL relay.
    6. Reconnect the main body ECU connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT RELAY - HEADLIGHT, BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the DRL relay from the No. 4 engine room relay block.
    2. Disconnect the A23 and A24 headlight connectors.

    4. Measure the resistance according value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      DRL relay terminal 3 - A23-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      DRL relay terminal 3 or A23-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      DRL relay terminal 3 - A24-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      DRL relay terminal 3 or A24-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      DRL relay terminal 5 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    5. Reinstall the DRL relay.
    6. Reconnect the headlight connectors.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
