Air Conditioning System: Pre-Check
- LIST OF OPERATION METHODS
By operating each of the A/C control switches as shown in Fig 1 , it is possible to enter the diagnosis check mode.
- INDICATOR CHECK
- Turn the ignition switch ON while pressing the A/C control AUTO switch and R/F switch simultaneously.
- Check that the indicators come on and go off 4 times in succession at 1 second intervals.
HINT:
- After the indicator check is completed, the system enters the DTC mode automatically.
- Press the OFF switch to cancel the check mode.
- DTC CHECK (SENSOR CHECK)
- After the indicator check is completed, the system enters the DTC check mode automatically.
- Read the codes displayed on the panel. Refer to the list of codes DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE when reading the codes. (Trouble code are outputted at the temperature display.)
- If the slower display is desired, press the DEF switch and change it to the step operation. Each time the DEF switch is pressed, the display changes by 1 step.
- CLEARING DTC
- To clear diagnostic trouble code, there are 2 ways.
- During sensor check, press the "DEF" switch and "A/C" switch at the same time.
- Pull the ECU-B fuse in engine room J/B for 20 seconds or longer to clear the DTC memory.
- To clear diagnostic trouble code, there are 2 ways.
- ACTUATOR CHECK
- After entering the DTC check mode (Sensor Check Mode) press the R/F switch.
- As each damper, motor and relay automatically operate actuator check at 1 second intervals from step No. 1 to No. 10 continuously, check the temperature and air flow from visual and by hand.
If the slower display is desired, press the DEF switch and change it to step operation. Each time the DEF switch is pressed, the display changes by 1 step.
HINT:
- Codes are displayed from the smaller to the larger numbers in order.
- To cancel the check mode, press the OFF switch.
- CHECK DLC3
- The vehicle's engine and ECT ECU uses the ISO 9141-2 (Euro-OBD)/ISO 14230 (M-OBD) communication protocol. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with ISO 15031-3 and matches the ISO 9141-2/ISO 14230 format.
DLC TERMINAL REFERENCETerminal No. Connection/Voltage or Resistance Condition 7 Bus + Line/Pulse generation During transmission 4 Chassis Ground - Body Ground/1 Ω or less Always 5 Signal Ground - Body Ground/1 Ω or less Always 16 Battery Positive - Body Ground/9 - 14 V Always - DATA LIST
HINT:
From to the DATA LIST displayed by hand-held tester, you can read the value on the display, sensor, actuator and so on without parts removal. Reading the DATA LIST as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to shorten the labor time.
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- From the display on tester, read the "DATA LIST".

- ACTIVE TEST
HINT:
Performing the ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER allows the relay, VSV, actuator and so on to operate without parts removal. Performing the ACTIVE TEST as the first step of troubleshooting is one way to shorten the labor time.
It is possible to display the DATA LIST on the hand-held tester during the ACTIVE TEST.
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- From the display on tester, read the "ACTIVE TEST".
