Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lexus SC 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Check the stop light switch using DATA LIST.

    Driver Side J/B ECU:

    1. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ) 
    2. NG: Go to next step. 
  2. INSPECT STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the stop lamp switch connector.

    1. NG: REPLACE STOP LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between terminal STPI of driver side J/B ECU and stop lamp switch.
    2. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between stop lamp switch and battery.
    3. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between terminal STPO of driver side J/B ECU and terminal STP of ECM.
    4. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between terminal STPA of driver side J/B ECU and terminal STP of skid control ECU.
    5. Check for open and short circuit in harness and connector between terminal STP of driver side J/B ECU and terminal STP of shift lock control ECU.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ) 
    2. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  )
