Circuit Description
Ignitor keeps the ignition coil primary circuit grounded, allowing a magnetic field to be built up in the ignition coil. When the ECM signals the ignitor, the ignitor interrupts the primary circuit, causing the ignition coil to fire. Also, by the counter electromotive force generated when the primary current is interrupted, the ignitor sends an Ignition Confirmation Signal (IGF) to the ECM. If IGF signal is not input to ECM, the ECM will stop fuel injection as a fail safe function.
Code is set if there is no IGF signal to ECM for 6 consecutive ignition signals with engine running. Possible causes are:
- Open or short in IGF or IGT circuits.
- Ignitor malfunction.
- ECM malfunction.
