Draining & Refilling

CAUTION: On models equipped with air suspension, turn air suspension height control switch to OFF position BEFORE raising vehicle. If height control switch is in ON position when vehicle is raised, vehicle automatic height adjustment will operate, resulting in possible damage to vehicle. Air suspension height control switch is located inside tool storage on left side of trunk. When vehicle is lowered, air suspension HI indicator light will blink if height control is in OFF position.
  1. Remove drain plug to drain fluid. If transmission oil strainer is to be changed, remove oil pan. Remove oil strainer and gasket.
  2. Clean transmission oil pan and replace pan gasket. Install oil strainer and gasket. Reinstall transmission oil pan. Tighten bolts. Install drain plug. With engine off, add new fluid through dipstick hole.
  3. Start engine and shift selector into all positions. Shift selector back into "P" position. Check fluid level. Add fluid to bring level up to COOL mark on dipstick.
  4. Recheck fluid level when engine and transmission reaches operating temperature of 158-176°F (70-80°C). Add fluid up to HOT mark.
