Repair Procedures: Removal
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconception.
- To release the fuel system pressure before removing the engine assembly, start the engine with the fuel pump relay removed. And then turn off the ignition switch after engine stops.
- Remove the engine cover (A).
- Disconnect the battery terminals and then remove the battery (A).
- Remove the air conditioning refrigerant.
- Remove the air duct (A).
- Disconnect the ECM connector (A) and then remove the air cleaner assembly and ECM.
- Remove the engine room under cover (A).
Tightening torque:
9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)
- Drain the engine coolant.

- Remove the front muffler (A).
Tightening torque:
39.2 ~ 58.8N.m (4.0 ~ 6.0kgf.m, 28.9 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)

- Remove the front bumper assembly.
(Refer to FRONT BUMPER )
- Remove the RH and LH head lamps.
(Refer to HEAD LAMPS )
- Remove the battery tray (A).
- Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses (A).
- Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B).
- Disconnect the hood latch cable (A).
- Disconnect the A/C discharge line and liquid line (A).
- Disconnect the wiring harness connectors and fasteners from the front end module (FEM) assembly.
- Remove the RH and LH front end module (FEM) upper mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
21.6 ~ 26.5 N.m (2.2 ~ 2.7 kgf.m, 15.9 ~ 19.5 lb-ft)
- Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly after removing the front end module (FEM) assembly bolts (A) and (B).
Tightening torque:
Bolts (A): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)
Bolts (B): 21.6 ~ 26.5 N.m (2.2 ~ 2.7 kgf.m, 15.9 ~ 19.5 lb-ft)
NOTE: Marking is necessary before removing FEM in order to install the FEM in the right place as it was. - Disconnect the control wiring harness connectors and fasteners and remove the wiring harness protectors from the engine and transaxle assembly.
- Disconnect the brake vacuum hose (A).
- Disconnect the inlet (C) and outlet (D) heater hoses from the heater unit.
- Disconnect the fuel hose (A).
- Disconnect the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (A).
- Remove the lower arm (B) & fork (A) mounting bolt (C). Refer to FRONT LOWER ARM

Tightening torque:
137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)
- Remove the lower arm ball joint mounting bolts (A). Refer to FRONT LOWER ARM

Tightening torque:
98.1 ~ 117.7N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.8lb-ft)
- Remove the stabilizer bar link mounting nut (A). Refer to FRONT STABILIZER

Tightening torque:
98.1 ~ 117.7N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.8lb-ft)
- Remove the split pin and castle nut and then disconnect the tie rod end (A) with the knuckle. Refer to step 6 under REPAIR PROCEDURES

Tightening torque:
23.5 ~ 33.3N.m (2.4 ~ 3.4kgf.m, 17.4 ~ 24.6lb-ft)
- Disconnect the driveshaft from the axle hub.
- Remove steering u-joint mounting bolt (A). Refer to POWER STEERING GEAR BOX

Tightening torque:
29.4 ~ 34.3N.m (3.0 ~ 3.5kgf.m, 21.7 ~ 25.3lb-ft)
- Disconnect the return hose (A) and pressure hose (B). (HPS only)
- Support the sub frame (A) with a floor jack, and then remove the stay (B) and sub frame mounting bolts.
Tightening torque:
137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)
Tightening torque:
44.1 ~ 58.8 N.m (4.5 ~ 6.0 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)
- Disconnect the ground line and then remove the engine mounting bracket (A).
Tightening torque:
63.7 ~ 107.9 N.m (6.5 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 47.0 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)
- Disconnect the ground line and then remove the transaxle mounting bracket (A).
Tightening torque:
88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)
- Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by pulling toward the front of the vehicle.NOTE: When pulling the engine, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components. Damage to the engine or parts may occur.
