Repair Procedures: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconception.
  • To release the fuel system pressure before removing the engine assembly, start the engine with the fuel pump relay removed. And then turn off the ignition switch after engine stops.
  1. Remove the engine cover (A).

  2. Disconnect the battery terminals and then remove the battery (A).

  3. Remove the air conditioning refrigerant.
  4. Remove the air duct (A).

  5. Disconnect the ECM connector (A) and then remove the air cleaner assembly and ECM.

  6. Remove the engine room under cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

  7. Drain the engine coolant.

    (Refer to COOLANT )

  8. Remove the front muffler (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    39.2 ~ 58.8N.m (4.0 ~ 6.0kgf.m, 28.9 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)

  9. Remove the front bumper assembly.

    (Refer to FRONT BUMPER )

  10. Remove the RH and LH head lamps.

    (Refer to HEAD LAMPS )

  11. Remove the battery tray (A).

  12. Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses (A).

  13. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B).

  14. Disconnect the hood latch cable (A).

  15. Disconnect the A/C discharge line and liquid line (A).

  16. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors and fasteners from the front end module (FEM) assembly.
  17. Remove the RH and LH front end module (FEM) upper mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    21.6 ~ 26.5 N.m (2.2 ~ 2.7 kgf.m, 15.9 ~ 19.5 lb-ft)

  18. Remove the front end module (FEM) assembly after removing the front end module (FEM) assembly bolts (A) and (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolts (A): 9.8 ~ 11.8 N.m (1.0 ~ 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 ~ 8.7 lb-ft)

    Bolts (B): 21.6 ~ 26.5 N.m (2.2 ~ 2.7 kgf.m, 15.9 ~ 19.5 lb-ft)

    NOTE: Marking is necessary before removing FEM in order to install the FEM in the right place as it was.
  19. Disconnect the control wiring harness connectors and fasteners and remove the wiring harness protectors from the engine and transaxle assembly.

  20. Disconnect the brake vacuum hose (A).

  21. Disconnect the inlet (C) and outlet (D) heater hoses from the heater unit.

  22. Disconnect the fuel hose (A).

  23. Disconnect the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (A).

  24. Remove the lower arm (B) & fork (A) mounting bolt (C). Refer to FRONT LOWER ARM .

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

  25. Remove the lower arm ball joint mounting bolts (A). Refer to FRONT LOWER ARM .

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 ~ 117.7N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.8lb-ft)

  26. Remove the stabilizer bar link mounting nut (A). Refer to FRONT STABILIZER .

    Tightening torque: 

    98.1 ~ 117.7N.m (10.0 ~ 12.0kgf.m, 72.3 ~ 86.8lb-ft)

  27. Remove the split pin and castle nut and then disconnect the tie rod end (A) with the knuckle. Refer to step 6 under REPAIR PROCEDURES .

    Tightening torque: 

    23.5 ~ 33.3N.m (2.4 ~ 3.4kgf.m, 17.4 ~ 24.6lb-ft)

  28. Disconnect the driveshaft from the axle hub.
  29. Remove steering u-joint mounting bolt (A). Refer to POWER STEERING GEAR BOX .

    Tightening torque: 

    29.4 ~ 34.3N.m (3.0 ~ 3.5kgf.m, 21.7 ~ 25.3lb-ft)

  30. Disconnect the return hose (A) and pressure hose (B). (HPS only)

  31. Support the sub frame (A) with a floor jack, and then remove the stay (B) and sub frame mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

    Tightening torque: 

    44.1 ~ 58.8 N.m (4.5 ~ 6.0 kgf.m, 32.5 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)

  32. Disconnect the ground line and then remove the engine mounting bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    63.7 ~ 107.9 N.m (6.5 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 47.0 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

  33. Disconnect the ground line and then remove the transaxle mounting bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

  34. Remove the engine and transaxle assembly by pulling toward the front of the vehicle.

    NOTE: When pulling the engine, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components. Damage to the engine or parts may occur.
