Section 175 (Power Transfer Unit (Service Information)): Installation: Installation

  1. Remove and discard the O-ring (1) from the PTU (2).
  2. Apply Mopar® RTV, 05010884AA to the

    NEW 

    O-ring.

  3. Install the O-ring in the groove on the PTU.

  4. Place the PTU (1) in position on vehicle.

  5. Install the bolts (1) to hold the PTU to the lower transaxle housing. Tighten the bolts to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.)

  6. Lower and remove the high stand, holding the front of the engine and transmission up.

  7. Place the heat shield (1) in position on the PTU.
  8. Install the bolt (2) to hold the lower heat shield to the PTU. Tighten the bolt to 22 N.m (16 ft. lbs.).

  9. Install the heat shield (3) using NEW mounting clips.
  10. Install the bolts to hold the PTU to the transaxle upper mount bracket. Tighten the bolts to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).

  11. Lift the right side of the suspension cradle to the body structure.
  12. Install the bolts to hold the suspension cradle to the body structure.
  13. Remove the high stand supporting the right side of the suspension cradle.
  14. Install the rear propeller shaft assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  15. Install the exhaust crossunder pipe in position on the vehicle. Refer to . Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, INSTALLATION .
  16. Install the fore/aft crossmember Refer to CROSSMEMBER, FRONT FORE AND AFT, INSTALLATION .
  17. Lower the vehicle to midway level.
  18. If used, remove the cap-plug from the PTU output shaft seal.
  19. Install the right halfshaft. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  20. Verify that the fluid level in the PTU is within specification. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  21. Install the right front wheel. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  22. Lower the vehicle.
  23. Road test the vehicle to verify the repair.
