Section 116 (5.7L Engine (Service Information)): Installation: Installation

NOTE: Do not use air tools to install 8984A Engine Lift Fixture (1) and Adapter 8984A Eagle (2).
  1. Install the engine lift fixture 8984A (1) and adapter 8984A Eagle (2).
  2. Position the engine in the engine compartment.

  3. Lower and align the engine (1) with the transmission (3).
  4. Install two transmission bell housing to engine block mounting bolts (2) finger tight.

  5. Lower the engine assembly until the engine mount through bolts (3) line up in the frame brackets (1).
  6. Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist.

  7. Install the remaining transmission bell housing to engine block mounting bolts (2) and tighten to 68 N.m (50 ft. lbs.)

  8. Install both the left and right side oil pan to transmission bolts (1) and tighten bolts to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
  9. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines at the oil pan and tighten bolts to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).

  10. Install the engine mount through bolts (3) and nuts and tighten to 95 N.m (70 ft. lbs.).

  11. Install all torque converter-to-flexplate bolts (1) by hand, verify the torque converter is pulled flush to the flexplate and tighten bolts to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.).

    CAUTION: The structural dust cover must be installed as described in the Structural Dust Cover installation procedure. Failure to do so will cause severe damage to the cover.
  12. Install the structural dust cover (1). See Engine/Engine Block/COVER, Structural Dust - Installation .

  13. Install the starter (1) and connect the starter wires. Refer to Electrical - Engine Systems/Starting/STARTER - Installation .

  14. Install the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly (4) to the exhaust manifold flange and tighten the bolts and nuts (3) to 26 N.m (19 ft. lbs.).
  15. Lower the vehicle.

  16. Remove the engine lift fixture 8984A and adapter 8984A Eagle (1,2).

  17. Connect the fuel supply line (1). Refer to Fuel System/Fuel Delivery/FITTING, Quick Connect - Standard Procedure .

  18. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Steering/Pump - Installation .

  19. Connect the heater hoses (1).

  20. Reconnect the ground wires to the rear of each cylinder head.
  21. Install the intake manifold. See Engine/Manifolds/MANIFOLD, Intake - Installation .
  22. Install the generator (2), and wire connections. Refer to Electrical - Engine Systems/Charging/GENERATOR - Installation .

  23. Install the A/C compressor (3). Refer to Heating and Air Conditioning/Plumbing/COMPRESSOR, A/C - Installation .

  24. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Cooling/Accessory Drive/BELT, Serpentine - Installation .
  25. Install the radiator fan and shroud assembly. Refer to Cooling/Engine/FAN, Cooling - Installation .
  26. Connect the radiator lower hose.
  27. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines to the radiator.
  28. Connect the radiator upper hose.

  29. Install the air cleaner resonator and duct work.
  30. Add engine oil to the crankcase. Refer to Vehicle Quick Reference/Capacities and Recommended Fluids - Specifications .
  31. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling - Standard Procedure .
  32. Install the engine cover (1).

  33. Install the strut tower support (1).
  34. Connect the negative battery cable.
  35. Start the engine and inspect for leaks.
  36. Road test the vehicle.
