Test TC-168A - Governor Pressure Sensor Volts Too High
NOTE:
For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION DIRECTORY. For component location see wiring diagram in the WIRING DIAGRAMS
article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect transmission solenoid connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, Using scan tool, check voltage on transmission solenoid connector, 5-volt supply circuit (Orange wire). If voltage is not 4.5-5.5 volts, repair open 5-volt supply circuit and perform TEST VER-2A. If voltage is as specified, go to next step.
- Connect transmission solenoid connector. Using scan tool, read governor pressure sensor voltage. If voltage is more than 4.65 volts, go to step 7). If voltage is less than 0.12 volt, perform TEST VER-167A. If voltage is not 0.12-0.80 volts, perform TEST TC-168B. If voltage is 0.12-4.65 volts, go to next step.
- Wiggle wiring harness from PCM to governor pressure sensor while monitoring GOV PRESSURE voltage. If voltage changes while wiggling wiring harness, repair wiring where wiggling caused change and perform TEST VER-2A. If voltage does not change, go next step.
- Condition required to set DTC is not present at this time. GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR VOLTS TOO HIGH DTC sets if governor pressure sensor input is more than 4.89 volts for 8.36 seconds. Possible causes are: defective PCM, internally shorted or open, incorrectly wired, dirty or corroded connector, or open or shorted wiring. Go to next step.
- Test is complete. See INACTIVE DTC CONDITION. Perform TEST VER-2A.
- Disconnect transmission solenoid connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connectors. Inspect connectors and terminals for damage. Repair connectors and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connectors and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of governor pressure sensor signal circuit between transmission solenoid connector and PCM White connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open governor pressure sensor signal circuit and perform TEST VER-2A. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. 10 Check resistance of sensor ground circuit (Black/Light Blue wire) between PCM Black connector and transmission solenoid connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open ground circuit and perform TEST VER-2A. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
- Connect a jumper wire between transmission relay connector, fused B+ circuit (Red/White wire) and transmission control relay output circuit. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM White connector, governor pressure signal circuit. If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair governor pressure signal circuit for short to voltage and perform TEST VER-2A. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
- Remove transmission oil pan. Disconnect governor pressure sensor connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary and perform TEST VER-2A. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Connect transmission solenoid connector. Check voltage on governor pressure sensor connector, governor pressure signal circuit. If voltage is more than one volt, replace transmission solenoid and harness assembly. Perform TEST VER-2A. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of governor pressure sensor signal circuit between PCM White connector and governor pressure sensor connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace transmission solenoid and harness assembly. Perform TEST VER-2A. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
- Check resistance of sensor ground circuit (Green wire) between PCM Black connector and governor pressure sensor connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace transmission solenoid and harness assembly. Perform TEST VER-2A. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
- Reconnect all connectors except governor pressure sensor connector. Carefully connect a jumper wire between governor pressure sensor connector, governor pressure signal circuit and ground circuit (Green wire). Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read governor pressure sensor voltage. If voltage is one volt or less, replace governor pressure sensor and perform TEST VER-2A. If resistance is more than one volt, replace PCM and perform TEST VER-2A.
