CONDITION SUMMARY

Situation:  In an effort to ensure that certain 2011 model year XJ vehicles are fitted with the very latest software to enhance the vehicle owner's experience, vehicles within the affected VIN range may require a number of module software updates. As previously communicated, these software updates will offer a number of additional infotainment features, including Interactive Voice™, enhanced Navigation functions, and video streaming via the Media Hub. Jaguar is making these available to customers who have purchased 2011MY XJ vehicles.

Those modules requiring software updates are:

In addition, as a result of field reports and Engineering investigations on 2011MY XJ vehicles, a number of enhancements are being introduced to improve the customer's experience. These feature enhancements will cover the following items:

NOTE: Unsold US vehicles only eligible for UPS3110 (K070) must have Owner's Handbook JJM 18 02 34 112 installed in place of JJM 18 02 34 111 after completion of the rework action detailed in Technical Bulletin UPS3110.

Action:  Dealers are required to HOLD  all affected vehicles in the above VIN range that are in their control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new or used vehicle sale pending completion of the rework action detailed in this Technical Bulletin. Affected vehicles in the hands of owners should be repaired at the next available opportunity. At the time of customer appointment, ensure that all outstanding service campaigns for each individual vehicle are identified and allocate sufficient time and resources to complete all campaigns.

For cars in dealer inventory, this Service Action should be performed after completion of the vehicle Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI).

NOTE: Due to specific vehicle needs and limited stock, dealers should contact the Unipart DOC team and provide the relevant VIN by 2:00PM dealer local time to have orders for the following parts to be supplied FOR EXPRESS DELIVERY THE NEXT MORNING  . The Vanity Packs and Business Tray Latches are color-matched items with very low take. Casting Kits, Amplifiers, and Cross Car Seals are only necessary if failure is confirmed. Dealers should order these parts only if needed. Quantity shown is for each affected vehicle.

*** Loctite 272 (50ml) or 263 (50ml) or 3M Rite-Lok RT01 (50ml) thread locking compound is required for the front and rear blind repairs. The Loctite thread locking compound will cover the repair of up to 200 vehicles and should be claimed under 'Other'. 
If Loctite 406 and any of the other four thread locking compounds are required, a maximum allowance of $0.45 has been set on the system to cater for both and should be claimed under 'Other'. 
NOTE: A sufficient quantity of Owner's Handbooks has been sent directly to dealers free of charge.

NOTE: Always check DDW to verify that the vehicle is affected by this Service Action prior to undertaking any repairs. Repair procedures are under constant review and therefore times and prices are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

Warranty claims should be submitted quoting the Program Code 'K064'  , Option Code 'X'  along with the relevant SROs and parts. The Option Code which contains drive in/drive out and may only be claimed if the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.

This Service Action is valid for a limited time only and will expire 31 October 2014  . All Warranty claims prior to this date must be submitted for payment within 30 days of completion of the repair.

PRE-REPAIR PROCEDURES

NOTE: Prior to commencing Repair Procedures 1 - 20, verify required parts are available. In addition, perform the following pre-repair procedures to determine if any additional components (Panoramic roof blind casting kits, ACM) are required and customer settings (radio, CD) are available at the completion of the repair procedures.
  1. Record all radio presets (AM/FM/SDARS) and Navigation search area.
  2. Eject CD from CD player.
    NOTE: Refer to Parts  section for Express Delivery information.
  3. Verify Panoramic roof front and rear sun blind operation (Repair Procedure 4).
    • If necessary, order appropriate parts.
  4. V00477 - V04639: inspect Audio Unit Amplifier for water ingress (Repair Procedure 16).
    • If necessary, order appropriate part.
  5. V00477 - V05279 only: ensure a new Audio Control Module (ACM) is available.
  6. V00477 - V06854 only: refer to the Battery Care Manual and determine the battery condition.
    • Record Midtronics tester code in vehicle file.
    • If 'Replace Battery' or 'Bad Cell Battery' is displayed, note it on the repair order and continue with all the necessary Repair Procedures. If required, refer to Workshop Manual section 414-01 and replace the vehicle battery as part of Repair Procedure 18.
  7. Ensure K064 IDS Care Points  (attached) has been reviewed.
  8. Ensure the correct, updated Owner's Handbook is available.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 1: V00477 - V04816

CAUTION: Ensure care is taken to avoid damage to the body work.
  1. Open left-hand (LH) front door.
  2. Lower door glass.
  3. Remove the inner cap on the front door pillar.

  4. Remove the Torx bolt.

  5. Apply protective tape to the gloss black portion of the door.
    CAUTION: Slightly twist the finisher past the gloss black portion of the door to prevent damage.
  6. Lift and twist the rear edge of the finisher past the gloss black portion of the door.

  7. Slide the front of the finisher back and out from under the door mirror.

  8. Using a diluted soap and water solution, fully lubricate the mirror and waist area.
    • Lubricate the upright flange running the length of the door outer panel which the outer waist finisher rests on.
    • Lubricate the local area at the bottom of the cheater part of the door mirror where the waist finisher enters.
  9. Install the new waist finisher.
    • Slide the front of the finisher forward and under ((1)) the rear edge of the door mirror.
    • Twist and lower ((2)) the rear edge of the finisher past the gloss black portion of the door.

  10. Remove protective tape from the gloss black portion of door.
  11. Close door.
  12. Align the front and rear edges of the finisher.
    • Open door.
    • Install Torx bolt; tighten to 1.1Nm (0.80lbf ft)  .
  13. Install inner cap.
  14. Close window.
  15. Close door.
  16. Verify finisher fit.
  17. Repeat steps  1 -  16 to right-hand (RH) front door.
  18. Continue to next appropriate Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 2: V00477 - V07015; LWB ONLY

  1. Open the LH business tray.
    NOTE: If present, the washer behind the latch must be installed in the same position on the new latch.
  2. Remove the LH business tray latch:
    • Remove the bolt.

  3. Install the new LH business tray latch:
    • Install the bolt.
  4. Repeat steps  1 -  3 on the RH business tray.
  5. Continue to next appropriate Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 3: V00477 - V09995

CAUTION: Ensure the vehicle interior is protected from damage, staining, or dirt.
  1. Turn ignition 'ON'.
  2. Open the Panoramic roof opening panel to the high-tilt position:
    • Press the Panoramic roof button to the tilt position.
    • Press the Panoramic roof button a second time to begin its slide rearwards.
    • Press the Panoramic roof button a third time once the opening panel reaches its highest position.

  3. Turn ignition 'OFF'.
    NOTE: If seal is distorted, using a suitable tool make sure that the seal is returned to the original shape.
  4. Inspect the rear cross car seal (affixed to the front of the rear fixed roof glass panel) adhesion:
    • If the seal has less than 15cm (6.0in)  of continuous non-adhesion, continue to step 5.
    • If the seal has more than 15cm (6.0in)  of continuous non-adhesion, continue to step  9 to replace the seal.
    • If the seal does not show signs of non-adhesion, continue to step  12.

  5. Wipe the affected non-adhered areas with a suitable alcohol wipe; allow to dry.
    CAUTION: Ensure the front edge of the seal is not contaminated with the adhesive.
  6. Beginning at the adhered position, apply a 25mm (1.0in)  bead of Loctite® 406 adhesive to the contact surface of the cross car seal:
    • Use a suitable tool to align the seal to the glass, applying gentle upward pressure for 20 seconds.
    • Allow at least 10 minutes for adhesive to dry completely.

  7. Repeat step  6 for all affected non-adhered areas.
  8. Continue to step  12.
    CAUTION: Use care to remove the seal, stopping the tape from sticking to the vehicle.
    NOTE: '(1)' is the roof opening panel; '(2)' is the rear fixed glass panel.
  9. Remove the rear cross car seal from the rear fixed glass panel.

  10. Wipe the affected non-adhered areas with a suitable alcohol wipe; allow to dry.
    NOTE: When installing the seal, remove the backing tape from the new seal in 20cm (8.0in) increments.
  11. Install the seal to the end of the glass:
    • Use a suitable tool to align the seal to the glass, applying gentle upward pressure until the seal has been installed the full length of the glass.

  12. Turn ignition 'ON'.
  13. Fully open the Panoramic roof glass panel.
  14. Turn ignition 'OFF'.
  15. Inspect the front cross car seal (affixed to the rear of the front fixed glass panel) adhesion:
    • If the seal has more than 15cm (6.0in)  of continuous non-adhesion, continue to step  20 to replace the seal.

    CAUTION: Ensure the rear edge of the seal is not contaminated with the adhesive.

    • Using gentle pressure, make sure the foot is correctly located and cannot move (forward, backward, or sideways).

  1. Facing the front blind, unclip the blind draw bar from the plastic blind feet:
    • Rotate the blind upwards (rear edge of draw bar down) to release the locks.
    • Pull the blind towards you and then down and away from the blind feet.

  11. Insert the locking pin through the holes in the roller and the shaft.

  25. Transfer the rear blind track onto the new casting assembly:
    • Position the track over the cables.
    • Locate on the two dowels.
    • Install the T15 Torx bolt; tighten to 3.5Nm (2.6lbf ft)  .
    • Reinstall the cable guide tube to the new casting assembly and secure the white clip.

  26. Install the new casting assembly:
    • Ensure the drive cables are correctly routed into the front blind track.

    • Connect the blind drive motor electrical connector.
    • Install the two T15 Torx screws; tighten to 3.5Nm (2.6lbf ft)  .
    • Install the T25 Torx screws into the rear blind track/casting; tighten to 7Nm (5.2lbf ft)  .
    • Secure the white clip.
    • Secure the three cable guide fir tree clips.

    • Install the blind feet on both sides; measure their position to ensure they are at the exact same position, front-to-rear, to ensure the blind is being pulled out evenly
    • Align the blind LH foot dove tail notch onto the LH cable drive block; repeat for RH blind foot.

  31. After installing the blind feet measure the distance from the end of the track to the leading edge of the blind foot.
    • On the side that does not have the motor installed (i.e. RH side for the front blind or LH side for the rear blind) insert one end of the drive spindle into the drive flange on the cable and rotate the flange until the blind foot measures the same distance as the blind foot on the side with the motor.
    • Repeat steps 31 to the opposite side.

      • Tighten to 5.4Nm (4.0lbf ft)  .
    • If present, remove and discard the two rear nuts.
    • If necessary, use a suitable socket and extension bar to bend the two rear mounting studs until centered in the holes.

    • Open/close Panoramic roof blinds five times.
  2. Ensure the blinds are closing evenly and that the tension is equal on both sides of both blinds.
    • If blinds are operating properly, continue to step 3.
    • If blinds are not operating properly, refer to Repair Procedure 10, step  31, to adjust the roller blinds.
    • If the blinds are closing evenly but not completely, use IDS/SDD procedure to calibrate the roof opening panel and blinds.
  3. Install the headliner.
  4. Continue to next appropriate Repair Procedure.

    NOTE: The sight shields must be installed with the tapered end towards the front of the vehicle.
  5. Install the RH outer sight shield.
    • Slide the shield as far forward as possible.
    • Secure the five clips.

  7. Turn ignition 'ON'.
  8. Open Panoramic roof opening panel to the full-open position.
  9. Turn ignition 'OFF'.
  10. Remove RH inner sight shield.

    CAUTION: Ensure there is a 2mm gap between the rear of the sight shield and the drive spindle.
  11. Install the RH inner sight shield.
    • Secure the rear clip to the rail.
    • Secure the remaining four clips while sliding the shield rearward.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 14: V00477 - V10049

  1. Turn ignition 'ON'.
  2. Open the Panoramic roof rear blind to the full-open position.
  3. Turn ignition 'OFF'.
    NOTE: For V00477 - V06000 that have had the rear blind feet replaced, fully clean the blind feet only; do not  replace the blind feet again.
    NOTE: For V06001 - V10049, replace blind feet if juddering (Repair Procedure 9).
  4. Replace the rear blind feet only if juddering (V06001 - V10049).
    NOTE: Panoramic roof rear (stationary) glass shown removed for clarity.
  5. Use a suitable cloth/alcohol wipe, clear out the rear blind RH guide, removing as much grease as possible.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 16: V00477 - V04369

  1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 415-01 and remove the Audio Unit Amplifier.
  2. Perform a luggage compartment water test.
    • If water ingress is present, refer to Technical Bulletin JTB00210, Water Ingress via the 'D' Pillar  , to repair as necessary. To be carried out as a separate Warranty claim.
    NOTE: Water ingress repairs must be carried out as a separate Warranty claim.
  3. Inspect the amplifier for signs of water ingress (water stains, etc.)
    • If signs of water ingress are present, replace  the Audio Unit Amplifier and program with IDS.
    • If no sign of water ingress is present, install the original  Audio Unit Amplifier.
  4. Install an Audio Unit Amplifier water shedder.
  5. Continue to next appropriate Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 17: V00477 - V10285

CAUTION: Refer to K064 IDS Care Points, pages i - iv, prior to commencing software updates.
CAUTION: Ensure all SDD-displayed ignition 'ON'/ignition 'OFF' requests and instructions are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the vehicle.
CAUTION: A Jaguar-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis/module programming.
NOTE: For vehicles within the VIN range V00477 - V05279, ensure a new Audio Control Module (ACM) is available prior to commencing this Repair Procedure. SDD will confirm if ACM replacement is necessary. Do not  replace the ACM unless and until  instructed to do so by SDD.
NOTE: Ensure the vehicle's USB Audio is functional before starting updates by playing music through vehicle USB port. If the vehicle's Audio/Video button is grayed out prior to starting SDD downloads, perform a Vehicle Battery Reset.
NOTE: The following items are required:

Two (2) formatted USB memory sticks with at least 256Mb of free space for transferring files from SDD to the vehicle; one (1) USB memory stick with MP3/WAV/AAC audio files 

  1. Connect the Jaguar-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle battery.
    NOTE: IDS must be loaded with IDS-DVD124_V6.01 or later and  Calibration File 58 or later.
  2. Connect the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.
  4. Choose 'Campaigns' from the Session Type selection screen.
    NOTE: In the event that a routine fails at any stage, the SDD recommendations screen will automatically change to show that the routine has 'completed'; on-screen prompts during the routine inform whether a download has completed successfully.
  5. Select the 'Recommendations' tab.
  6. From the Recommendations tab, select and 'Run' the following software updates in the order they appear:
    • XJ Customer Assurance Program - Stage 1 - Preparation - Important Instructions
    NOTE: If download fails to successfully be completed, disconnect the Midtronics power supply and vehicle battery to fully reset the vehicle. After 30 seconds, connect the vehicle battery and Midtronics power supply.
    • XJ Customer Assurance Program - Stage 2 - FCDIM Update Part A
    NOTE: Message 'Warning Communications Failure: IAM' may be displayed at the conclusion of stage 3; this may be ignored.
    NOTE: If SDD does not recognize the files transferred through the vehicle's USB port, perform a Vehicle Battery Reset and restart Stage 3.
    • XJ Customer Assurance Program - Stage 3 - FCDIM Update Part B
    NOTE: SDD will confirm if Audio Control Module (ACM) replacement is necessary. Do not replace the ACM until instructed to do so by SDD.
    NOTE: Ignore the SDD instruction to perform a vehicle lock-down procedure; this will be performed as part of Repair Procedure 20.
    • XJ Customer Assurance Program - Stage 4 - Audio Control Module Update
    • Only if instructed, refer to Workshop Manual section 415-01 and replace the ACM.
    • XJ Customer Assurance Program - Stage 5 - Instrument Cluster Module Update
    NOTE: DTC U0300 may become permanently stored in the FCDIM; it cannot be cleared and must be ignored.
    • XJ Customer Assurance Program - Stage 6 - Vehicle Set up/Recovery.
      • Select 'Traffic Messaging Channel' and then select 'tick'.
        • Only if instructed by the Jaguar Technical HelpLine: select 'Voice Car Configuration setting'.
      • Select 'Vehicle Set-up Instruction' and then select 'tick'.
      • Select 'MOST recovery help information' and then select 'tick.
  7. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.
  8. Exit the current session.
  9. Disconnect the IDS and vehicle power supply.
    NOTE: Ensure Repair Procedure 20 is performed prior to testing any new features.
  10. Continue to next appropriate Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 18: V00477 - V02989

  1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 211-00 and drain the power assist steering (PAS) fluid only.
  2. Refer to Workshop Manual section 303-12 and remove the left-hand (LH) air cleaner.
  3. Release the PAS fluid reservoir.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 20: V00477 - V10285

POST-FEATURE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM QUALITY CHECKS

  1. To ensure new vehicle settings are communicated across required vehicle modules on completion of the software update carry out the following:
    • Switch the ignition 'OFF".
    • Lock the vehicle; wait five minutes.
    • Unlock the vehicle.
    • Start the engine; leave running for two minutes.
    • Turn the engine 'OFF'.
    • Lock the vehicle; wait a further five minutes.
    • Unlock the vehicle.
    • Vehicle modules will have been reset successfully.
  2. Perform the following static checks:
    NOTE: Unsold US vehicles only eligible for UPS3110 (K070) must have Owner's Handbook JJM 18 02 34 112 installed in place of JJM 18 02 34 111.
    • Place updated Owner's Handbook JJM 18 02 34 111 (NAS English)/JJM 20 02 34 111 (NAS Canadian French) in the vehicle.
    • Inspect interior for damage and cleanliness, paying particular attention to the headliner and seats.
    • Inspect exterior of the Panoramic roof for damage.
    • Check the operation of the Panoramic roof and sun blinds.
    • Check operation of the business tray latches and vanity mirrors.
    • Set Interactive Voice ™ language to either French Canadian or US English as appropriate.
    • Door glass initialization, luggage compartment lid stop.
  3. Start the vehicle, move outside to an open area, and perform the following:
    • Press the voice button on the steering wheel; wait for the beep to end.
    • Using Interactive Voice™, tune the radio to a known strong frequency, e.g. "Radio Tune Frequency Ninety Seven Point One". Ensure the radio frequency changes and is displayed on the HLDF and that the Voice Command is acknowledged by Voice feedback and the display in the cluster.
    • Enter the Navigation Menu, 'Accept' the disclaimer, and select the Navigation Menu.
    • Select 'Destination Entry'. Set Navigation search area; ensure the new buttons for 'POI', 'Home', and the numbered '1-5' stored location buttons are displayed.
    • Program customer radio presets (AM/FM/SDARS); insert CD if previously removed.
    • Ensure date/time is set correctly (local time, 12/24HR format).
  4. Perform a road test, checking for the following:
    • Squeaks and rattles, paying attention to the Panoramic roof area.
    • Wind noise, paying attention to the Panoramic roof area.
    • Check steering system lock-to-lock and all fluid levels (V00477 - V02989 only).
  5. Pair the customer's phone:
    • Delete 'jaguar' from the customer's phone.
    • Refer to SSM45189, Phone Not Pairing After an IAM Software Update  , and pair the customer's mobile telephone to the vehicle (if necessary).

K064 IDS CARE POINTS

VEHICLE PREPARATION

Vehicle Battery Voltage
  • Ensure vehicle battery open circuit voltage (OCV) is 12.5V or greater before attaching the approved power supply to the vehicle's battery. (The power supply's negative cable should be attached to the vehicle chassis where the negative battery cable is connected.)
  • Batteries with OCV less than 12.5V must be charged using the approved battery charger.
  • It is NOT acceptable to charge the vehicle battery while IDS is being used to perform ANY vehicle programming. (Charge the battery first, remove surface charge, ensure OCV is >/= 12.5V, then apply the approved power supply.)
  • During module programming, the on-screen vehicle battery voltage indicator may turn red briefly while SDD establishes a programming session with the target control module; this is normal.
Vehicle Electrical Draw
  • To reduce electrical draw/noise, close or latch all doors and luggage compartment lid.
  • Switch 'OFF' all exterior lamps and all ventilation blower fans.
  • Switch 'OFF' all Infotainment Audio/Video systems.
  • Unplug any components connected to the iPod®/USB interface.
Vehicle Control Modules
  • Always start the SDD session with the vehicle's existing control modules fitted, and only replace modules if and when SDD indicates this is required  .
NOTE: Customer settings to be noted before and reset after software update
  • Remove CD if fitted to the IAM before starting the process
  • Record all presets (AM/FM/SDARS) before starting; reset when complete
  • Record Navigation Search Area and reset this in the navigation system and from the Navigation Destination entry feature in Voice Commands
    • Press the voice command button > say 'Navigation Go To Address' > 'Change search area' > input desired search area > exit commands
  • All navigation destinations will be deleted
  • Set window stops again when complete
  • Bluetooth phone will need to be re-paired. The customer must erase previously paired 'Jaguar' network from the phone before re-pairing to the vehicle
  • Set the system voice language to Setup - system - language - US English or French Canadian male or female  depending on customer preference
  • Save all shortcuts and configure again when complete
  • Record and reset all volume presets
  • Record and reset all customer screen settings
  • Record and reset all instrument pack vehicle setup settings
  • Record and reset all instrument pack display settings
  • Recommend customer complete voice training
  • Record reset luggage compartment lid position

IDS PREPARATION

IDS Software
  • Ensure IDS-DVD124_V6.01, Calibration Files 58, and As-Built Files 58 are fully installed.
  • Ensure all IDS maintenance has been performed recently. (Defrag, Scan Disc, File Clean-Up etc performed)
IDS Hardware
  • Inspect diagnostic cables and hardware, and replace as required.
  • Only use approved IDS equipment that meets all published hardware and software specifications. (Windows XP Service Pack 2 & Internet Explorer® 6 etc)
IDS Connectivity
  • Ensure connectivity is active or be prepared to use alternate PC to obtain vehicle software as required via USB memory stick.

MISCELLANEOUS PREPARATION

USB Flash Drive

Stages 3 & 4 require that files are transferred from the IDS tester to the vehicle via a USB memory stick. While the on-screen instructions for this process recommend using a USB device with at least 256MB of free space, the following specs and care points are critical.

  • A blank 1GB USB memory stick (or larger) is preferred.
  • DO NOT use USB memory devices that implement 'U3' technology. 'San Disk' branded devices typically employs this feature which creates multiple drive letters. THIS IS NOT PREFERABLE.
  • Disconnect/Remove all other 'Removable Disk Drives' from the IDS unit before starting this campaign, including the SD card slot.
  • When viewing 'My Computer', the only drive(s) visible should be the 'C:\' drive and the 'DVD' drive (when fitted), but no removable drives.
  • Carefully read the on-screen prompts for inserting/removing the USB drive, as this will save time by having the USB drive correctly inserted into the laptop or vehicle when expected.
  • When asked to insert the USB drive into the laptop, allow Windows XP time to load it. An auto run popup window will usually appear once the drive has been recognized by windows.

SESSION START

Verify Robust Communications with Vehicle

At the start of every diagnostic session, after the desired session type is selected, SDD performs a comprehensive data collection process. Afterwards, a network summary screen is displayed.

  • Review the results of the network summary screen that is displayed before selecting the Recommendations tab to begin the campaign.
  • If SDD DOES NOT DISPLAY A 'GREEN TICK' for the FCDIM, ACM, and IPC, check the connections and ignition state, and then repeat the data collect process.
  • If the problem IS  resolved, continue with the instructions in the campaign. IF NOT RESOLVED  , these communication failure issues will require separate troubleshooting before continuing with this campaign  . Contact the Technical HelpLine as required.

VERIFY REQUIRED DATA IS AVAILABLE

SDD requires a combination of 'live data' from the vehicle as well as 'As-Built' data to effectively qualify the vehicle specifications, hardware and software levels, etc. Without information from both sources, SDD may not be able to resolve vehicle software effectively and one or more programming stages may fail with the 'No Software for This Variant' message.

When the Recommendations tab is selected to display diagnostic candidates, additional candidates warning the user about 'missing as-built data' may be displayed at the top of the list. If this occurs, immediately confirm that the most current as-built data has been loaded to the tester by checking for new updates using the System Utilities.

  • If not up-to-date, download the latest as-built files for Jaguar XJ and then start a new session for this vehicle to confirm as-built is now available.
  • If the as-built data is up-to-date, then this specific vehicle may be missing as-built data.
  • Vehicles that are missing as-built data may encounter problems selecting software. Consult with your Technical HelpLine as required to resolve this issue.

Additional considerations when as-built data is not present on the tester.

If any stage fails in such a way that SDD must be restarted, users must ensure that the original session is resumed. In most cases, SDD will prompt you to resume the session in progress. If not, begin a new session, then immediately select the 'Sessions' tab at upper right side of screen. From the Sessions tab, select 'Load' to load the previous session. This is required to ensure SDD has all  of the control module data originally collected from the vehicle at the start of the original session. Starting a new session with partially programmed modules can limit the data available to SDD, preventing the effective completion of the remainder of this campaign.

GENERAL NOTES

Always follow on-screen ignition status instructions
Keyless Vehicle Module 'Failures'

There are several points during this campaign where SDD will collect various control module data before proceeding. Each module will be listed on-screen in turn by name. Occasionally, the Keyless Vehicle Module may be displayed with a 'Red X', indicating a negative response. For the purposes of this campaign, these errors may be ignored.

'Unknown Status' on 'Confirm Software to be Downloaded' Screens

During all vehicle software download procedures on SDD, a software confirmation screen with an evaluation of current and selected software is displayed for review by the user before the download is allowed to start. Below the selected software listing is general advice for how to proceed.

During this campaign, it is expected that SDD will NOT  be able to confirm when updates are required, and the following advice will be offered at every stage:

  • 'The overall download status of this module cannot be determined due to the unknown status displayed above, ensure that the latest application release has been loaded before proceeding.'
  • 'Advice can be sourced via the Technical Hotline.'

Provided the correct Calibration file v59 or later is currently loaded in SDD, these prompts may be ignored; do not contact the technical helpline regarding these prompts  .

STAGE SPECIFIC NOTES

Stage 2
  • The incremental changes of IDS-DVD124_V6.01 include an additional download (three total).
  • Because the FCDIM is programmed in several stages, it is temporarily left in a partially programmed state during Stage 2.
  • During the latter half of Stage 2, two errors will be seen during the collection of control module data from the vehicle prior to the software selection. The Audio Amplifier Module and Audio Front Control Module will have a 'Red X' displayed in front of them. This communication failure is expected in the latter half of Stage 2 and may be ignored.
  • At the start of ANY  software download procedure, SDD provides an estimate of time required to complete the download. During Stage 2, the typical time estimate is not possible and '0 Hours 0 Minutes' will be displayed. This is normal.

    The approximate download times are:

    • Four (4) minutes
    • One (1) minute
    • Two (2) minutes
NOTE: Download times displayed for other stages are accurate to within one (1) minute.
  • During Stage 2, there may be one or more software downloads to the FCDIM. SDD will display a software download report showing the various stages of these processes. Towards the end of each download during Stage 2, it is normal to see two 'Red Xs' and the message 'An unspecified error occurred during the software download process.' displayed. Ignore these errors during Stage 2, and continue on to Stage 3 to complete the FCDIM programming.
  • Towards the end of Stage 2, there is on-screen instructions to disconnect/re-connect the vehicle battery. After this is done, there is information about the FCDIM remaining blank. Since the ignition is 'OFF' at this point, the FCDIM will be blank regardless of the programming success/failure. Switch the ignition 'ON' to confirm the FCDIM remains off/blank at the end of Stage 2. If not blank with the ignition 'ON', then Stage 2 has not been completed successfully.
Stage 3
  • During Stage 3, since the FCDIM is partially programmed, two errors will be seen during the collection of control module data from the vehicle prior to the software selection. The Audio Amplifier Module and Audio Front Control Module will have a 'Red X' displayed in front of them. This communication failure is expected and may be ignored.
  • During Stage 3, while SDD resolves the vehicle software to be downloaded, there will be an extended delay of up to two minutes before the selection is displayed; this is normal.
  • If SDD does not recognize the files transferred through the vehicle's USB port, perform a Vehicle Battery Reset and restart Stage 3.
    • In the event SDD again does not recognize the files after performing a Vehicle Battery Reset, perform a second Vehicle Battery Reset and start Stage 2 a second time.
  • Towards the end of Stage 3, while the FCDIM is rebooting after final programming, it is normal for the screen to turn white for a short time.
Stage 4
  • To clarify the on-screen instructions, the 'IAM' acronym is used to describe the Integrated Audio Module.
  • The incremental changes of IDS-DVD124_V6.01 include an additional download (three total). Two original downloads have been split into three in an effort to reduce complexity and increase success rates.
  • All vehicles, including those requiring IAM replacement, require Stage 4 download.
  • At the start of Stage 4, confirm that the FCDIM is now operational again indicating all programming during Stages 2 and 3 were successful. If the FCDIM is still white or blank, Stage 2 and/or 3 may need to be repeated. First attempt another 'battery reset' as instructed at the end of Stage 3. If necessary repeat Stages 2 and 3 a second time while remaining in the current session. If proper function cannot be restored, contact the Technical HelpLine before proceeding with any additional recovery work.
  • Once Stage 4 is successfully completed, SDD will display a reminder to perform a complete vehicle lock-down; this should be done after successfully completing Stages 5 and 6.
Stage 5
  • No additional specific advice for this stage is required; follow all onscreen prompts to complete this stage.
Stage 6
  • New 'Vehicle setup/recovery' menu introduce the ability to add Traffic Master Channel and Voice Car Configuration settings.
  • Some on-screen text during the enablement of TMC is not translated correctly or references 'Voice Audio'. These text errors will be corrected on a future patch and may be ignored.
