Front Unit End Play Check
- With transmission removed from vehicle and torque converter removed, remove 1 front pump attaching bolt and bolt seal at either 10 o'clock or 5 o'clock position.
- Install slide hammer bolt into threaded bolt hole in front pump. Mount a dial indicator to bolt and index indicator to register with end of turbine shaft. While holding output shaft forward, push turbine shaft rearward.
- Zero dial indicator. Pull turbine shaft forward and read resulting end play on indicator. End play should be .003-.025" (08-.64 mm). If end play is not within specified limits, select correct thickness washer for use at reassembly.
- Selective thrust washer controlling this end play is located between pump cover and forward clutch housing. Front end play selective thrust washers are available in varying thicknesses and are color coded. See Fig 1 .
