DTC 53: Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Open Or Shorted

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EHCU harness connectors. Measure resistance between EHCU 16-pin harness connector terminals No. 4 (Orange/Blue wire) and No. 12 (White/Blue wire). If resistance is not 1.2-2.0 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 1.2-2.0 k/ohms, check for faulty harness between wheel speed sensor and EHCU. Repair as necessary. If no problem is found, replace EHCU. After repairs, go to step  3.
  2. Measure resistance of rear wheel speed sensor. If resistance is 1.2-2.0 k/ohms, repair harness between wheel speed sensor and EHCU. If resistance is not 1.2-2.0 k/ohms, replace wheel speed sensor. After repairs, go to next step.
  3. Reconnect all components. Ensure all component are properly installed. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. Verify system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
