Diagnostic Procedure

For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  .

Remove ECT sensor. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR under SENSORS & SWITCHES in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - EXCEPT I35 & QX4 article. Place ECT sensor in heated water. Measure resistance between ECT sensor terminals No. 1 and 2, with water at specified temperatures. See ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not as specified, replace ECT sensor. If resistance is as specified, procedure is complete.
