DTC P0510: Closed Throttle Position (TP) Switch: Procedure

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect closed Throttle Position (TP) switch harness connector. See Fig 1. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and closed TP switch harness connector terminal No. 5 (Black/White wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity of Orange/White wire between ECM harness connector terminal No. 28 and closed TP switch harness connector. See Figure. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Orange/White wire.
  3. Reconnect all harness connectors. Adjust closed TP switch. See THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR in ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off. Disconnect closed TP switch harness connector. Check continuity between closed TP switch terminals No. 4 and 5. See Fig 1. Continuity should exist when accelerator pedal is released. Continuity should not exist when accelerator pedal is depressed. Replace closed TP switch if it does not operate as specified. If closed TP switch is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check TP sensor. See DTC P0120: THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR . Replace, if necessary. If TP sensor is okay, no problem is currently indicated. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article.
