Repair Procedures: Removal

CAUTION:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
NOTE:
  • Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconception.
  • For release the fuel system pressure before remove the engine assembly, start the engine without fuel pump relay. And then turn off the ignition switch after engine stops.
  1. Remove the transmission before removing the engine. (Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE )
  2. Disconnect the battery negative cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    3.9 ~ 5.9 N.m (0.4 ~ 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 ~ 4.3 lb-ft)

  3. Remove the engine room cover (A), engine cover (B) and radiator grill upper cover (C).

  4. Loosen the drain plug (A) and drain the engine coolant. Remove the radiator cap to speed draining.
    WARNING: Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious scalding could be caused by hot fluid under high pressure escaping from the radiator.

  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
    1. Remove the air duct (A).
    2. Disconnect the breather hose (B).
    3. Loosen the clamp (C) and then disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle body.

      Tightening torque: 

      2.9 ~ 4.9 N.m (0.3 ~ 0.5 kgf.m, 2.2 ~ 3.6 lb-ft)

    4. Remove the chamber air cleaner (D) and air cleaner assembly (E).

      Tightening torque 

      Air cleaner assembly bolts:

      7.8 ~ 9.8 N.m (0.8 ~ 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 ~ 7.2 lb-ft)

  6. Recover refrigerant and then disconnect the A/C high pressure pipe (A) and low pressure pipe (B). (Refer to COMPRESSOR )

  7. Remove the front wheel.
  8. Remove the under cover.
  9. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A) and lower hose (B).

  10. Disconnect the ATF oil cooler hose (A).

  11. Remove the fuel hose (A), the purge control solenoid valve (PCSV) hose (B) and the brake booster vacuum hose (C).

  12. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  13. Disconnect the ECM connector (A), TCM connector (B), IDB connector (C), front connector (D) and ground line (E).

    Tightening torque 

    Ground (E):

    10.8 ~ 13.7 N.m (1.1 ~ 1.4 kgf.m, 7.9 ~ 10.1 lb-ft)

  14. Remove the fuse box cover (A).

  15. Disconnect the wiring (A) of the fuse box.

  16. Remove the jump cable cover (A) and fuse & relay box cover (B).

  17. Disconnect the wiring (A) of the jump cable and the wiring (B) of the fuse & relay box.

  18. Remove the fuse & relay box (A) by loosening the mounting bolts (B).

  19. Remove the connector (A) and wirings.

  20. Disconnect the ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 ~ 13.7 N.m (1.1 ~ 1.4 kgf.m, 7.9 ~ 10.1 lb-ft)

  21. Remove the tie rod end ball joint (A). (Refer to REPAIR PROCEDURES )
  22. Remove the stabilizer bar by loosening the link fixing nut (B) and clamp fixing bolt (C). (Refer to FRONT STABILIZER BAR and REAR STABILIZER BAR )
  23. Remove the air spring wiring bracket (D)
  24. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt and nut (E). (Refer to REAR SHOCK ABSORBER )
  25. Remove the height level sensor mounting bolt (F).
  26. Remove the lateral arm mounting bolt & nut (G) from the sub frame. (Refer to FRONT LOWER ARM )
  27. Remove the tension arm mounting bolt & nut (H) from the sub frame. (Refer to FRONT LOWER ARM )

  28. Disconnect the power steering fluid hoses (A) and then drain the power steering fluid. (Refer to POWER STEERING FLUID REPLACEMENT (EHPS) and POWER STEERING FLUID REPLACEMENT (HPS) )
  29. Remove the air hose fixing clips (B) from the sub frame.

  30. Remove the steering column U-joint bolt (A). (Refer to REPAIR PROCEDURES )

  31. Disconnect the LH and RH rear oxygen sensors (A) and then front muffler (C) after removing the exhaust manifold stay (B).

    Tightening torque 

    Nuts (D):

    49.1 ~ 54.0 N.m (5.0 ~ 5.5 kgf.m, 36.2 ~ 39.8 lb-ft)

    Bolts (E):

    34.3 ~ 41.2 N.m (3.5 ~ 4.2 kgf.m, 25.3 ~ 30.4 lb-ft)

  32. Support the sub frame (A) and engine assembly with a floor jack.
  33. Remove the sub frame mounting bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 ~ 156.9 N.m (14.0 ~ 16.0 kgf.m, 101.3 ~ 115.7 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • After removing the mounting bolts, the engine assembly may fall downward, and so support them securely with floor jack.
    • Verify that the hoses and connectors are disconnected before removing the engine assembly.

  34. Remove the engine assembly and sub frame by lifting vehicle.

    NOTE: When removing the engine assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
