Hold-In Test

Disconnect field coil wire from starter solenoid terminal "M". Apply battery voltage to starter solenoid terminal "S" of solenoid and ground starter case. See Fig 1 . Solenoid plunger should pull in. If pinion drive remains out when plunger is pulled in, hold-in circuit is good. If pinion drive moves in or moves back and forth repeatedly, hold-in circuit is open. Replace solenoid. See OVERHAUL  .
