Hold-In Test

Disconnect field coil wire from terminal "M" of solenoid. Apply battery voltage to terminal "S" of solenoid, and ground starter case. See Figure . Solenoid plunger should pull in. If pinion drive remains out when plunger is pulled in, hold-in circuit is good. If pinion drive moves in, hold-in circuit is open. Replace solenoid.
